Auston Matthews and Zach Hyman scored in the second period to lift the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs over the Boston Bruins 4-1. Frederik Andersen made 32 saves for the Leafs and improved to 6-0 in his career against Boston. Toronto also snapped a three-game skid. James van Riemsdyk scored in the third for the Leafs and Connor Brown added an empty-netter.

Max Pacioretty scored four goals while Brian Flynn tallied twice in a six-goal first period as the Montreal Canadiens routed the Colorado Avalanche 10-1. Pacioretty completed his hat trick in the second period and added another in the third. The Canadiens captain has seven goals in his last four games.

Alex Goligoski and Lauren Dauphin scored 1:57 apart in the first period and the Arizona Coyotes beat the Nashville Predators 4-1 Saturday night.

Brendan Perlini added his first career goal, Martin Hanzal also scored and Mike Smith made 42 saves for the Coyotes, who were 0-3-3 since their last win against at Edmonton on Nov. 27.

Arizona scored four goals for the first time since Nov. 8 after totalling four in its previous four games.

Aaron Ekblad gave Florida a three-goal lead early in the third period and the Panthers held on for a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The win was Florida’s first in regulation since a victory over Ottawa on November 19th, a span of 11 games. Daniel Sedin and Jack Skille scored in the third period for the Canucks.

Not the way Chris Neil was hoping to celebrate a milestone. The longtime Senators forward played his 1,000th game for Ottawa in its 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Zack Smith scored for the Sens in the loss and Mike Condon made 15 saves. Ottawa has lost four of its last six games.

Sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson has become the first Louisville player to win the Heisman Trophy. He beat out pre-season favourite Deshaun Watson of Clemson despite some late-season struggles. Jackson had 51 touchdowns and averaged 410 yards per game in total offence. He’s the youngest Heisman Trophy winner at 19 years, 352 days.

Eleider Alvarez posted a workmanlike unanimous decision over Poland’s Norbert Dabrowski to set the table for his February fight with former world champion Lucian Bute. Alvarez is a Colombian native based in Montreal and improved to 21-and-0 with the victory. He retained his position as the top-ranked light heavyweight contender in the World Boxing Council.
