Two junior hockey players are facing assault charges in connection with an alleged incident at a summer house party in the Vancouver area. Brett Kulak and Jackson Houck (HOW’-ihck) of the Vancouver Giants were each charged with assault causing bodily harm in August, according to the B-C court services. Kulak, the Giants’ leading scorer, is also charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

The L.A. Kings may need to keep Tyler Toffoli around. He scored twice and had an assists in his third game back from the minors as L.A. blasted the Vancouver Canucks 5-1. Jonathan Quick made 25 saves as L.A. won for the 10th time in 14 games. Roberto Luongo was pulled from the Canucks’ net after giving up four goals on 18 shots.

Patrice Bergeron was Toronto’s undoing once again. The Bruins centre scored twice to lead Boston to a 3-1 victory over the Leafs in the teams’ first meeting since their playoff series last spring. Joffrey Lupul scored for the Maple Leafs, who lost for just the second time in six games. Bergeron was the hero of last year’s Game 7, scoring an OT goal to knock Toronto from the playoffs.

Elsewhere in the NHL, Tampa Bay edged Detroit 3-2 in O-T, Minnesota needed a shootout to get past Carolina 3-2, Columbus downed the Islanders 5-2, Phoenix slipped a 4-3 shootout win past Washington, St. Louis took a 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh, and Chicago routed Dallas 5-2. Earlier, Philadelphia beat Edmonton 4-2 and Florida fell to Ottawa 3-2.

Jenelle Kohanchuk scored twice and Vicki Bendus had a goal and two assists to help Canada win the Four Nations Cup women’s hockey tournament, 6-3 over Finland. Jennifer Wakefield, Brianne Jenner and Haley Irwin also scored for Canada in the pre-Olympic event.

Tyler Hansbrough scored 23 points off the bench to lead Toronto to a 115-91 win over Utah. Around the league, Paul George scored 24 points to lead Indiana over Brooklyn 96-91. The Pacers are off to their best start in franchise history with a 7-and-oh record. The NBA champion Miami Heat were stunned by the Celtics as they fell 111-110. Jeff Green hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Boston its third straight victory.
