PGA — Martin Kaymer wasn’t as impressive as he was in the first two rounds of the U.S. Open, but he still enjoys a sizeable lead through 54 holes at Pinehurst.
Kaymer bogeyed three of his first six holes en route to a 2-over 72 that leaves him 8-under for the tournament and five shots ahead of Ricky Fowler and Erik Compton. Kaymer was coming off the greatest two-round score in U.S. Open history, a 10-under 130.
Kaymer had just one bogey before carding five on Saturday. He also had an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole and closed his round with a birdie.
Fowler and Compton are 3-under, one shot ahead of Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson. Fowler and Compton began the day 10 strokes back before each fired a 3-under 67.
Brandt Snedeker is seven strokes strokes back following a 72.
Brendon Todd had a nightmarish third round. He entered play alone in second before carding a 79 that included eight bogeys and a double-bogey.
Also at the Open, a man driving NBC Sports analyst Roger Maltbie’s golf cart was taken into custody Saturday. A state trooper said Tommy Lineberry ignored instructions to stay put, then hit the officer with the cart.
Maltbie was walking with the final group of Martin Kaymer and Brendon Todd. Lineberry’s job is to drive Maltbie to get in position for the next shots. The trooper was holding traffic behind a walkway when Lineberry ignored the order and kept driving.

UFC: Demetrious (Mighty Mouse) Johnson defeated Ali (Puncher) Bagautinov by unanimous decision at UFC 174 on Saturday night to retain his flyweight title.
Johnson put on a clinical display of speed against the challenger, who scored a couple of takedowns but was never really a threat at Rogers Arena.
The bout marked the first time the flyweight division has headlined a UFC pay-per view card and was scored 50-45 by all three judges.
In the co-main event, Canadian welterweight Rory (Ares) MacDonald defeated Tyron (The Chosen One) Woodley in an impressive unanimous decision in the most exciting bout of the night.
Johnson almost connected with a spinning kick with under a minute to go in the fifth and final round but Bagautinov was able to avoid the blow to send the bout to the scorecards.
The five-foot-three Johnson (20-2-1, 8-1-1) won the UFC’s inaugural flyweight title back in 2012 and has now successfully defended the 125-pound belt four times.
