The Regina Red Sox spotted Weyburn a one run lead before scoring four unanswered runs to beat the Beavers 4-1 at Currie Field Saturday night.
Parks Smithey turned in a stellar seven inning pitching performance, scattering eight hits while striking out nine Beaver batters. The win improved Smithey’s record to 3-3.
Louis Cohen picked up his third save, as he struck out the side in the ninth inning to close out the contest.
Bryson Shelton led the Red Sox charges going two for three with an RBI. Zach Weatherford improved his team leading batting average to .331 with a pair of hits in four trips to the plate.
Regina, now 17-20 on the season, will look to add to their two game winning streak when they tangle with Weyburn again on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 pm. The Regina Pats are the game sponsor, and the Red Sox players will be wearing Pats caps for the game.

The Blue Jays are below 500 thanks to their bullpen. Ryan Tempera gave up a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning to Curt Casali as Toronto dropped a 3-2 decision to the Tampa Bay Rays. Toronto is now 46-and-47 on the year.

In the AL East, New York fell to the Seattle Mariners 4-3, Baltimore blanked the Detroit Tigers 3-nothing while Boston dropped a 3-nothing decision to the LA Angels. The Yankees sit atop the division. Tampa Bay is 3-and-a-half games back after beating Toronto. The Orioles are four back, the Jays are 4-and-a-half out while the Red Sox are 7-and-a-half back.

Canada was led on Day 8 of the Pan Am Games by gold medals from the men’s softball team, cyclist Hugo Barrette and veteran swimmer Ryan Cochrane. The softball team came away with a 2-1 win over Venezuela for their eighth straight Pan Am gold. Barrette continued Canada’s dominance in track cycling, winning gold in the men’s sprint. And Cochrane won the men’s 1,500-metre freestyle.

Jon Cornish ran for a 120 yards on 15 carries and the Stampeders erased a 16-point deficit to edge the Blue Bombers 26-2. A late 40-yard field goal by Rene Paredes put Calgary up for good. Stamps linebacker Juwan Simpson preserved the victory when he picked off an errant pass by Winnipeg starting quarterback Drew Willy with 23 seconds left on the clock.
