After struggling at the plate for much of the ALCS, Victorino hit a towering grand slam off Jose Veras in the seventh inning to give the Red Sox a 5-2 victory over the Tigers and lift them into the World Series. Game 1 against the St. Louis Cardinals goes Wednesday.

The Regina Pats are really on a roll. The WHL team won its sixth-straight game Saturday, knocking off the Warriors in Moose Jaw 4-2. Marc McCoy, Morgan Klimchuk, Connor Gay and Dyson Stevenson put the Pats out to a 4-0 before the Warriors fought back with a couple late ones. Dawson MacAuley earned the win in goal as the Pats (7-5-0) were outshot 39-32 before 3775 fans at Mosaic Place. The Warriors are winless in six. Regina hosts division-leading P.A. on Wednesday on 620 CKRM.

There was a rare occurance in the NHL Saturday. Coyotes goalie Mike Smith scored from his own crease with just over a second left as Phoenix beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-2. In San Jose, Joe Pavelski scored twice on the power play as the Sharks doubled the Calgary Flames 6-3. The win keeps the Sharks unbeaten at home.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are on a two-game losing streak after dropping a 3-1 decision to the Blackhawks. Dave Bolland was kept off the scoresheet in his return to Chicago since being traded to Toronto in June. Nazem Kadri scored the lone goal for the Leafs. In Montreal, Seth Jones snuck one past Carey Price as the Predators topped the Habs 2-1. Price made 35 saves in the losing effort.

Kory Sheets ran for 148 yards and a touchdown and the Saskatchewan Roughriders locked up a home playoff berth with a 35-14 win over the Lions. Earlier, the Argos ensured there will be a playoff game in Toronto this year with a 26-20 victory over the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg. Andre Durie and Dontrelle Inman caught touchdown passes and Swayze Waters booted four field goals to snap Toronto’s two-game losing streak.

The Regina Thunder host the Edmonton Huskies in a PFC semifinal Sunday at 1:00 pm at Mosaic Stadium. It’s just the second home playoff game in Thunder history. The Saskatoon Hilltops host the Edmonton Wildcats in the other semifinal.

Cain Velasquez has retained his heavyweight title. Velasquez stopped Junior Dos Santos in the fifth round at UFC 166. Velasquez landed a left that took Dos Santos down head first and stopped the bout. The pair has split two previous meetings.

Dwyane Wade scored 25 points in 26 minutes, James Jones added 18 and the Miami Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs 121-96 in NBA pre-season action. Former Raptor Chris Bosh finished with 17 points on 8-for-10 shooting for Miami. Bosh is shooting 61 per cent so far in exhibition play, averaging 17 points in six games.
