The Chicago Cubs will play for a World Series for the first time in over seven decades. Kyle Hendricks pitched seven-and-two-third scoreless innings and Anthony Rizzo hit a home run as Chicago rocked Clayton Kershaw and the L-A Dodgers for a 5-0 win in Game 6 of the NLCS. The Cubs will play Cleveland in the World Series starting Tuesday.

Tanner Pearson scored the only goal of the shootout as the Kings edged the Canucks 4-3 in LA. It’s Vancouver’s first loss this season after starting with four-straight victories. The Canucks came back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game late in the third after a goal by Alexander Edler.

David Perron scored his first three goals of the season and added an assist to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 6-4 win over the Calgary Flames. Paul Stastny, Patrik Berglund and Alexander Steen also scored for the Blues. Defenceman Alex Pietrangelo added two assists. St. Louis goalie Jake Allen made 22 saves.

Jonathan Toews and Artemi Panarin scored in the shootout to lift Chicago to a 5-4 win over the Maple Leafs. Also, Ottawa dropped a 4-1 decision to the visiting Lightning and Montreal picked up a 4-2 road win in Boston. Earlier tonight, former Habs coach and Canadian Senator Jacques Demers was hospitalized. His parliamentary office did not provide further detail on the 72-year-old’s condition.

Teemu Selanne had cheers rain down on him from Winnipeg Jets fans at Investors Group Field. The Finnish Flash repaid them by scoring twice, including the winner with four seconds left, and adding three assists as the Jets defeated the Edmonton Oilers 6-5 in the Heritage Classic alumni game.

The Edmonton Eskimos had their three-game win streak snapped with a 32-25 loss to the Lions in BC. Emmanuel Arceneaux caught two touchdowns in the first half, including a 70-yard score. Earlier in the evening, the Montreal Alouettes kicked their two-game losing skid with a 19-14 win over the Roughriders in Regina.
