The rookies got it done against for the Maple Leafs. Auston Matthews scored in his second straight game and Mitch Marner set up two other goals as Toronto doubled up Washington 4-2 at Air Canada Centre. Marner now has 18 points, matching Winnipeg’s Patrik Laine for the overall rookie scoring lead. He has six multi-point outings in his first 21 NHL games.

Alex Galchenyuk scored at 3:37 of overtime, and the NHL-leading Canadiens beat theRed Wings 2-1 in Detroit. Galchenyuk finished off a 2-on-1 by one-timing a pass from Alexander Radulov past Petr Mrazek from the bottom of the left circle. It was Galchenyuk’s ninth goal. Carey Price made 32 saves.

Steph Curry had 34 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and the Warriors overcame the absence of Draymond Green to beat the Timberwolves 115-102. Curry shot 13 for 19 with four 3-pointers, while Kevin Durant added 28 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and a career-high six blocked shots.

Russell Westbrook posted his second straight triple-double and seventh of the season with 17 points, 15 assists and 13 rebounds to lead Oklahoma City’s 106-88 rout of Detroit. Anthony Morrow had a team-high 21 points and Victor Oladipo had 18 in the Thunder’s second straight win since a three-game losing streak.

Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the ice dance event at the NHK Trophy in Sapporo, Japan to qualify for the figure skating Grand Prix Final. The duo were in first place after the short program and received 116-point-3 points in the free dance for a combined total of 195-point-8-4 points.
