The Canadian women’s squad will have to watch the rest of the World Cup. Christine Sinclair scored, but it wasn’t enough as Canada was eliminated in quarter-final play by England 2-1. England will play its semifinal match against defending champion Japan, which beat Australia 1-nil for its spot in the final four. The US and Germany go at it in the other semi.

Nick Moore made a nice sliding catch on an 18-yard throw from Drew Willy with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers opened their regular season with a 30-26 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Willy finished with 325 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Darian Durant’s injury woes continue. The Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback’s season is over after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The injury happened late in the second quarter. Durant missed the end of last season with an elbow injury to his throwing arm.

The Toronto Argonauts opened their season with a 26-11 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The game billed the “Northern Kickoff” was the first regular-season CFL game played at the new SMS Equipment Stadium. Argos QB Trevor Harris completed 24 of 27 pass attempts for 347 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Matt Boyd made it to the seventh inning and struck out seven batters in his major league debut. The 24-year-old lefty also gave up three home runs as the Toronto Blue Jays were blanked by the Texas Rangers 4-nothing. The league’s most potent offence had no answers for Texas starter Yovani Gallardo, who ran his scoreless inning streak to 23.

In the AL East, New York downed the Houston Astros 9-6, Tampa Bay beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 while the Baltimore Orioles had their game against the Cleveland Indians postponed because of rain. The Rays lead the division over the Yankees by half a game. Toronto sits two games back.

The Regina Red Sox swing back into action Sunday as they host the Swift Current Indians at 2:05 pm at Currie Field.

To my pal in Ottawa,

Love your city and enjoyed going to a CFL game their in 2003 when the Riders met your Renegades.

I am not affiliated with Riderville. It is the name of the team's web-site and their venue for party time at the Grey Cup, which I hope to will attend in 2015.

No my friend, I am a part of Rider Nation, a global phenomenon. Good luck with your R Nation. We will see if your team is ready when the play R Roughriders.
