STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS:  Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks are four wins away from their third Stanley Cup championship in six seasons after winning the Western Conference finals.

The Hawks have advanced to the finals against Tampa Bay by defeating the Ducks in Game 7, 5-3 Saturday in Anaheim. Toews put the Blackhawks ahead to stay just 2:23 after the opening faceoff before making it 2-0 with a power-play goal midway through the first period.

Brandon Saad and Marian Hossa added second-period tallies to put Chicago ahead 4-0. Corey Crawford finished with 35 saves and blanked the Ducks until Ryan Kesler scored with 69 seconds remaining in the second period.

Patrick Kane had three assists for the Hawks, who won the last two games of the series by a combined 10-5 margin.

The Blackhawks split their two regular-season meetings with the Lightning, winning the first 3-2 in a shootout and losing 4-0 at Tampa. Game 1 of the finals is Wednesday.

MEMORIAL CUP:  Erie Otters star and projected No. 1 overall NHL draft pick Connor McDavid walked off with three Canadian junior hockey awards Saturday, including player of the year.

The 18-year-old was also named top prospect of the year and took the scholastic player of the year award for a second year in a row. He is expected to be taken first by the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL draft on June 26.

The awards were announced by the Canadian Hockey League, the umbrella organization for the Western, Ontario and Quebec Major Junior hockey leagues.

McDavid dominated junior hockey this season, finishing third in the OHL scoring race with 44 goals and 120 points in only 47 games. In the playoffs, he helped Erie reach the OHL final with 21 goals and 49 points in 20 games.

He also assisted Canada win gold at the world junior championship in Montreal and Toronto.

McDavid beat out Conor Garland of the Moncton Wildcats and Oliver Bjorkstrand of the Portland Winterhawks for player of the year honours.

The Memorial Cup will be handed out Sunday in Quebec City when the OHL champion Oshawa Generals face the WHL champion Kelowna Rockets (5:30 pm ST, Sportsnet).

CFL: The Toronto Argonauts signed four players on Saturday, including former National Football League defensive lineman Dontay Moch.

Moch spent last season with the Tennessee Titans, where he played in three games and had four tackles. He also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals drafted Moch in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft.

Defensive backs Brandon Underwood and Matt McGarva along with wide receiver Aaron Kelly also signed with Toronto.

Kelly played with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last season while also suiting up for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for two years. Over his career, he has caught 103 passes for 1,360 yards and six touchdowns. Last season with Winnipeg, he had a career-high 43 receptions for 549 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

It is Underwood’s second stint with Toronto after spending part of last season on the Calgary Stampeders practice roster. Underwood started seven times in 2014 with the Argos, collecting 19 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

McGarva, a native of Surrey, B.C., spent the last two years with the BC Lions. The University of Windsor alumni recorded five special teams tackles with the Lions.

The Argonauts also added DL Cleyon Laing and offensive lineman Branndon Braxton to the suspended list.

ROUGHRIDERS:  The Saskatchewan Roughriders open 2015 training camp Sunday morning at Griffith’s Stadium in Saskatoon with the first of two-a-day workouts.  The practices are scheduled for 9:45 am and 3:00 pm.

MLB:  The Blue Jays left nine runners on base and fell 3-2 to the Minnesota Twins this afternoon. Toronto also hit into three double-plays in the first three innings against Twins’ start Kyle Gibson. The Jays finished the game 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position. Kevin Pillar (pih-LARR’) hit his first home run since the first week of the season.

The Houston Astros have matched the best 50-game start in team history, just two years after setting a club record with 111 losses. Dallas Keuchel (KY’-kul) struck out 11 while tossing a four-hitter in the Astros’ 3-0 win over the Chicago White Sox. It’s the second career shutout for Keuchel, whose 7-and-1 record is a big reason for the Astros’ 31-19 start.

NBA:  An A-P source says the New Orleans Pelicans have hired Golden State Warriors assistant Alvin Gentry as their head coach. The source says Gentry is expected to remain with Golden State until the Warriors complete the N-B-A Finals against Cleveland. Gentry has served as a head coach four times, compiling a career record of 335-and-370. His most successful stint came with Phoenix from 2008 to 2013.

PGA:  Steven Bowditch will carry a two-stroke lead into the final round of the AT&T Byron Nelson.

The Australian fired a 4-under 65 on Saturday for a 13-under total. Bowditch is seeking his second PGA Tour title, and his first since the Texas Open last year.

Dustin Johnson was in the group tied for second after the day’s low round of 62. Jonathan Randolph briefly held the lead but went in the water on 18 for a double bogey that dropped him into a tie with Johnson, Jimmy Walker, Scott Pinckney and John Curran.

Hometown favourite Jordan Spieth is six strokes back.
