Pavel Padakin and Sam Steel scored short-handed goals to help Regina down the Rockets 3-1 in Kelowna on Sunday.  With the win, the Pats concluded their west coast swing at 4-1.

Braden Christoffer added an empty-net goal for the Pats (16-10-1) for their third-straight win.  Rourke Chartier opened the scoring with his league-leading 29th goal on the power play for Kelowna (22-3-3).  The Pats host Brandon on Wednesday at 7 pm on 620 CKRM.

Karri Ramo stopped all 26 shots he faced for his second consecutive shutout as the Calgary Flames blanked the Arizona Coyotes 3-0. Jiri Hudler led the offence for the Flames, scoring once and assisting on two more.

Earlier, Tyler Bozak led the Toronto Maple Leafs with two goals in a 6-2 pounding of the Washington Capitals. The Montreal Canadiens dropped their third-straight game, falling to the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in a shootout, and the Ottawa Senators lost for the fifth time in seven tries as the Tampa Bay Lightning topped them 4-1.

The Vanier Cup has a new home. For the first time in program history, the Montreal Carabins have the CIS football championship trophy. Montreal edged the McMaster Marauders 20-19, blocking a field goal on McMaster’s last possession of the game.

It’s bad news for DeMar DeRozan and the Toronto Raptors. The all-star swingman is out indefinitely with a torn tendon in his left groin sustained in Friday night’s loss to Dallas. It’s rare for Toronto to be without DeRozan. He’s only missed 10 games due to injury in six NBA seasons.

The Philadelphia 76ers are still searching for their first win of the season. Philly dropped to a franchise-record 0-16 to start the year after dropping a 110-103 decision to Dallas. Tyson Chandler had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Mavericks. Michael Carter-Williams had a triple-double with 18 points, 16 assists and 10 rebounds for the 76ers.

Around the NBA, Houston topped the Milwaukee Bucks 117-103, the Los Angeles Clippers blew past Utah 112-96, Cleveland downed the Indiana Pacers 109-97, the Atlanta Hawks routed Charlotte 105-75, and the Washington Wizards edged the New Orleans Pelicans 83-80.

Pats 4 and 1 west coast trip. Where are all the wing nuts now? Maybe give the new ownership group and hockey people a little credit now!
