Overtime continues to be kind to the Los Angeles Kings. Dustin Brown scored in double-OT as the Kings rallied to beat the New York Rangers 5-4 for a 2-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup final. L-A won Game 1 in overtime as well. The series now moves to the Big Apple for Game 3 and 4.

There’s labour peace in the CFL. The league and Players’ Association averted a possible strike by agreeing to a tentative deal on a new collective bargaining agreement. A source tells The Canadian Press the new deal calls for a 5 million dollar salary cap. That’s far less than the union’s original 6.24 million cap demand.

California Chrome came up short like so many before him at the Belmont Stakes. The horse failed to win the Triple Crown with a fourth-place finish behind winner Tonalist. A crowd of 102,000 was silenced when it became clear California Chrome wouldn’t win the first Crown in 36 years.

Mark Buehrle had another great outing but he wasn’t as good as Shelby Miller. Buehrle allowed one run through seven innings as the Blue Jays fell 5-0 to St. Louis. Miller meanwhile pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout for the Cardinals.

Toronto is still well ahead atop the A-L East. The Jays are five-and-a-half games ahead of Baltimore after the Orioles beat Oakland 6-3. The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays each lost to fall further behind Toronto.

When George Kottaras’s major-league career ends he should be able to find work on a dairy farm. The Canadian catcher for the Cleveland Indians beat Rangers reliever Robbie Ross in a cow-milking contest for the second straight year. The event at the game was held to recognize Texas dairy farmers.

A few things: 1) It is apparent it's becoming impossible for a Horse to win the Triple Crown. It is 3 races within 5 weeks. The Belmont has a longer length, and many of the horses in it do not race the first two so are well rested. I think this is all about grabbing at least 1 of the 3 for many of the owners and putting that on the sire resume.
