The St. Louis Blues picked up their fourth straight win to climb within one point of the NHL’s Western Conference-leading Anaheim Ducks.

Ryan Miller stopped 26 shots and Patrik Berglund provided the eventual game-winner in the third period as the Blues downed Colorado 2-1.

The Blues now lead the Central Division by four points over Chicago, with the Avs five points back.

– Reilly Smith scored the lone shootout goal after Tuukka Rask stopped Tampa Bay’s seven attempts in Boston’s 4-3 win over the Lightning. Johnny Boychuk and Carl Soderberg each had a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who trailed 3-2 until Boychuk scored in the third period.

– San Jose rolled over Montreal 4-0 as Antti Niemi handled 27 shots in his third shutout of the season and 26th of his career. Tommy Wingels scored the Sharks’ first two goals and Logan Couture added a goal and two assists.

– Joffrey Lupul scored at 2:21 of overtime to lift Toronto past Philadelphia 4-3. Jonathan Bernier stopped 28 shots for the Maple Leafs, who blew leads of 2-0 and 3-2 before earning their second straight win since a three-game skid.

– Washington ended a three-game skid by turning a 2-0, third-period deficit into a 3-2 win over Phoenix. Karl Alzner and Brooks Laich scored 32 seconds apart to tie the game midway through the final period before Troy Brouwer notched a power-play goal with 5:13 remaining.

– Ales Hemsky and Jason Spezza each set up three goals while the two played on Ottawa’s top line in a 5-3 triumph at Winnipeg. Mlan Michalek added a goal and two assists to help the Senators win for just the second time in six games.

– Sergei Bobrovsky turned back 28 shots and Artem Anisimov scored the lone goal with 6:25 remaining to push Columbus to its fourth victory in five games, 1-0 at Nashville. The Predators lost their fourth in a row despite Pekka Rinne’s 35 saves.

– New Jersey beat Carolina 5-4 on Tuomo Ruuttu’s goal with 6 1/2 minutes left. Adam Henrique scored twice and Travis Zajac had a goal and two assists for the Devils.

– Erik Cole’s breakaway goal with 4:49 to play pushed Dallas past Minnesota 4-3. Tyler Seguin had a goal and two assists for the Stars on a night where Mike Modano’s #9 was retired.

– Eddie Lack made 22 saves and Yannick Weber provided the tiebreaking goal in the third period of Vancouver’s 2-1 verdict over Calgary. The Canucks stayed above .500 by winning for just the second time in 13 games.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Washington Capitals general manager George McPhee has signed Russian forward Evgeny Kuznetsov and expects him to make his NHL debut Monday against Pittsburgh.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound winger was selected in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft and has spent the last four years playing in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League. Kuznetsov led the team in scoring each season from 2010-13 and made the 2012 KHL All-Star team.

It took an extra end but Alberta earned the right to meet John Morris and B-C for the men’s Canadian curling championship, the Tim Hortons Brier in Kamloops. Kevin Koe and his Alberta rink edged Jean-Michel Menard and Quebec 9-8. Menard forced the extra end when he made a last-rock double in the 10th, but Koe used the hammer to score the winner with his last rock.

DORAL, Fla. (AP) – Patrick Reed has the lead after three rounds of the Cadillac Championship in Doral, Fla. He shot a 3-under-69 to finish play 4-under for the tournament after 54 holes. Jason Dufner and Hunter Mahan are tied for second at 2-under-par.

Tiger Woods had a great third round with a 6-under-66 to move to within three shots of the lead. Weyburn’s Graham DeLaet is tied for 21st at +4.

The Major League Soccer season started yesterday and a sellout crowd of 21-thousand showed up at B-C Place Stadium to see the Vancouver Whitecaps down the New York Red Bulls 4-1. Kenny Miller scored twice for the Whitecaps. And Mauro Diaz scored on a free kick and set up a penalty as F-C Dallas opened the season with a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Impact.
