SUNSERI ANSWERS QUESTIONS
The 8-3 Saskatchewan Roughriders hit the practice field on Wednesday for the first time since Sunday’s 28-3 loss in Hamilton. Quarterback Tino Sunseri took questions on suffering a loss in his first pro start.
ON WHAT HE LEARNED FROM THE GAME
TS: Well shoot as soon as we got out of the locker room I was able to download the game and look at the tape and start going through play-by-play, pick it apart and see what I was looking at, what my footwork was like, look at it like a coach and the way I was playing and I took a lot away from it. It was my first start, making sure I was on rhythm with everybody, making sure we can do anything possible to make it smooth. That’s why we worked extra today so we can make sure our timing is right, right route depths and make sure we’re all on the same page.
ON THE TICATS DEFENSIVE GAME PLAN
TS: You always have to give the other team credit. They went out and made plays. We missed some throws on certain plays and they covered some things up. We made the adjustments to this week we can play fast and confident and make plays.
ON HIS CONFIDENCE RIGHT NOW
TS: My confidence is always through the roof. You can tell – I’ve always been a very confident individual when I step on the field. They’ll battle for me and I’ll battle for them. We’re excited to play. Whenever you don’t play as well as you want to, the game can’t come fast enough. You always want to put points on the board and win.
HOW CRITICAL ARE YOU OF YOUR PLAY?
TS: I’m always critical of my performance. Even when they said I played well against BC, and other teams, I was critical. I missed throws and that’s how you get better – being critical and picking it apart.
ON THE GAME PLAN IN HAMILTON
TS: Coach Cortez always does a great job of getting us prepared in the film room and on the practice field. We just have to execute a high level. He’s done a great job and let’s not be too critical — we’re 8-3 and so we need to understand we lost last week and this is a new week.
We still got your back Tino….
"We" didn't miss some throws Tino. Accountability man. Be a leader.
there were a couple of drops too, that is a "we". Tino didn't drop them.
"We" … he also didn't mention how a pass on the first series hit Taj right in the hands, or how Dressler dropped a crossing route that hit him in both hands … "We" lost.
Knowledge man. Be educated.
I counted about six catchable balls that were dropped. Its a we game……
Rock on Tino, Rock on!!
Hearing vicious rumours that Marc Mueller will be signing with the Riders as early as tomorrow and will be given every opportunity to grab the starting job. Will be great to have a local kid behind Centre.
Wow – gotta think the Little General had a hand in that one. Good Luck Marc – you deserve the opportunity.
WE (actually YOU) are a bunch of nut jobs on this blog.
"educated". For the sake of the team, I hope he improves this week. I watched the game closely and listening to Tino's comments post game to now, I'm sensing a tendency to look for excuses versus taking accountability. Im not seeing the leadrrship qualities a qb needs on or off the field.
There may have been a couple of catchable drops, but that was not the major issue on offence.
Coach Cortez just didn't have a good game plan….for most of the season he has only gone with the run mostly up the middle. He needs to do a much better job of planning the game and getting the players on board…not haRD TO STOP A TEAM WHO DOES THE SAME THING OVER & OVER. Special team are next weakness run backs every game is not a winning formula. Good time for a team meeting….team leadership needs to step up.
Look back on the games last year, there was at least one when people were all over George Cortez for his game plan. I recall one against Calgary when Sheets was not being used to his potential and he lost it on the sidelines. People complained about Cortez then too, but who had the last laugh at grey Cup? The man is a guru at what he does and he is going to show so much each game and that's it. The fact the running game wasn't there, other teams have game plans too! The passing game wasn't there because… Read more »
As an ever wearing green glasses wearer (lol), I am totally aboard the Tino Train. My first day on the job sucked @ss too..I have complete confidence in this organization, enough to NOT second guess their judgment! GO, Tino, GO! A lot (LOT) of Rider faithful are in your corner, bud!

I want to give Sunseri another chance, and so we should; we would be fools not too after to much invested. He's a smart guy with football in his blood, deep family roots in football. However if I was considering the three QB's and their background, if we were going by conference: 1) Keith Price– U of W Huskies– Pac 12, strongest conference of the others 2) Seth Doege– Texas Tech Red Raiders– Big 12, better than the Big East… U of Pitt 3) Tino Sunseri– U of Pittsburgh – When Tino was there it was Big East (although now… Read more »
i for one am completely into seeing how things go and being/remaining entertained the rest of this season with whomever starts at qb. it is competition on so many individual and group levels, this wonderful canadian game of football.
also, i really enjoy kel's presence in this blog commentary. it must be all the green in victoria, but whatever it is, it is a breath of fresh air!

Who ever said Marc Mueller is going to sign…give your head a shake. Not a chance.
Sunseri, a victim of starter jitters, and a team (including his own OC) who did nothing to help him out, will rebound and have a breakout game on Sunday!
I like his pedigree and the brash confidence! He'll lead his team to a W, and will show real potential in his substitute role until he's benched upon Darian's return.
In the off-season, Montreal will sign him as their starting QB, and here we go again! Except Price will be the next heir-apparent until Durant goes down, or he also walks to greener pastures.
Book it!
RBN.
T.S. Does not have enough experience to warrant mtl going after him. He would just be another stop gap in a bursting dam. Mtl has their eyes on Crompton as their starting qb going forward for the foreseeable future, book that.
Muller is a defensive assistant coach with the stamps
Yeah, like Willy, Reilly, Collaros had no experience! A glimpse of their potential will bring out the chequebooks!
You can add the Lions to the mix if Lulay is toast!

Not today! But neither did Willy, Collaros, Reilly when the big bucks came calling.
And if Lulay's finished, you can add BC to the mix!
