SWIFT CURRENT TOPS REGINA 14-10

The battle for top spot in the Eastern Division turned into the battle of the long ball as these two teams combined for six home runs in Swift Current’s 14-10 win over Regina. The 472 fans in attendance were treated to a back and forth batting affair.

Swift Current scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the ninth to erase the Red Sox 8-7 lead. With the score 14-8 Regina added a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 14-10 for the visiting 57’s.

Jake Waters started for Regina. The Lansing Michigan product pitched into the sixth inning. Waters, a senior at Arkansas Pine Bluff gave up seven runs on nine hits. The Red Sox dipped into their bullpen and used four relievers. Kevin Borst took the loss after giving up seven runs in his 1.2 innings of work.

Swift Current’s James Smith got the start and spent five innings in the game. After giving up seven runs he handed the ball to Trey Taylor. Keil Krumwiede came out of the bullpen in the seventh and held Regina at bay for two innings for the win. Layne Downing closed the game out, pitching the ninth inning.

Blake Adams was two for three with two home runs, two runs scored and four RBI for Swift Current. He also made a spectacular catch in the field.

Justin Erlandson led the Regina Red Sox offensive charge. The senior from Utah Valley had four hits including a triple and a home run, three runs scored and three RBI.

The Campbell brothers played a key roll in this game for their respected teams. Riley Campbell had a single, a double, a stolen base and four runs scored for Swift Current. His older brother Aden provided the Red Sox with two hits including a home run, two RBI and a run scored.

With the come from behind win Swift Current improved to 14-8 while Regina dropped to 15-7 but they still hold a one game lead over the 57’s in the race for first place.

These two heavyweights will be back on the Currie Field diamond on Friday. First pitch 7:05 pm.
