TERRIERS UP 1-0

YORKTON – With just 40 seconds remaining in regulation time of Game 1 of the SJHL’s Canalta Cup Final, Yorkton’s Brett Boehm scored his league-leading 9th of the playoffs to tie the game at 1-1 and send the series opener to overtime.  It didn’t take long for the Terriers to finish it.  Kailum Gervais scored his second overtime winner of the playoffs, 2:39 into the extra period, as the Yorkton Terriers beat the Melville Millionaires 2-1 to grab a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven affair.

The Terriers outshot the Millionaires 21-6 in the third period, 7-1 in overtime, and 46-25 on the night.  Isaiah Plett stopped 44/46 shots in a losing cause, while Kale Thomson picked up the win, making 24 stops for the Terriers.

Melville Coach Jamie Fiesel told Benny Walchuk on GX94 Radio the Millionaires didn’t deserve Game 1, but nearly stole it thanks to Plett.

“We let them off the hook.  We prepared for this team and didn’t do the things we talked about.  Our powerplay was embarrassing.  We’ve got a great goaltender and he gave us a chance, but we weren’t even in the game in the third, we were hanging on and we got lazy with 40 seconds left.”

The Millionaires are now faced with a crucial rematch on home ice in Saturday night’s Game 2.
