TERRIERS UP 3-0

For the first time in the Canalta Cup Finals, the score was settled in regulation, as the Yorkton Terriers grabbed a 3-0 series lead, with a 3-1 win over the visiting Melville Millionaires Monday evening.

The Terriers never did trail, as Derek Falloon opened the scoring early in the second, and Ben Mack quickly got the Millionaires back to even.  With just over a minute to go in the second period, Tyler Giebel tipped home a point shot, and that would stand up as the winner, as Giebel would add a late empty-netter for his second of the night.

Shots were 41-21 Terriers, as Kale Thomson made 20/21 saves in the win, bumping his Canalta Cup stats to 3-0, 0.87 GAA, .964%.  Isaiah Plett made 38/40 saves, and is without a win, despite an incredible save percentage of .954%.  The two goalies have also helped their respective penalty kill units go a combined 21/21 so far in the series.

On GX94 Radio, Melville Coach/GM Jamie Fiesel says at some point, Plett’s going to need some support.

“If you picked the top ten players in this series, one would be from Melville, nine would be from Yorkton.  Give Yorkton credit, but we just haven’t had anyone step up and be a difference-maker yet.”

It’s must-win time now for the Millionaires, as the Terriers are a win away from a second straight SJHL Championship, heading to Melville for Game 4 on Wednesday.

Love it, go Terriers! It seems that after those two close OT losses Melville is a bit deflated. Interesting to see what happens in game 4 but Yorkton is on a serious roll and they're not just satisfied with winning the league this year.

Nice to be motivated but will be shocked in AJHL and BCHL winners don't once again win WCC and move on to RBC.
