Bengals making moves in the AFC North Division
For many years the Cincinnati Bengals have been one of the most disappointing, and quite frankly, one of the most forgotten teams in the National Football League.
With Andy Dalton leading the charge for 9 seasons for the black and orange, stands would seemingly be half full almost every week. But finally, the Bengals seem to have turned it around, and become one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NFL.
The Bengals through 5 weeks currently sit at 3-2, something Mo Egger, an ESPN Cincinnati radio host said fans should be happy with, especially considering they almost beat the Green Bay Packers this past weekend.
“I’m encouraged with the team so far,” said Egger. “I think if you are a Bengals fan, Sunday’s game was incredibly disappointing. There were a number of things that if they had gone in Cincinnati’s favour, we’re talking about a 4-1 team that just beat Aaron Rodgers and a Super Bowl contender in the Packers.”
Egger said things the Bengals have historically gotten wrong, seem to just be going right this year.
“Joe Burrow is healthy, and Ja’Marr Chase is having an unbelievably good rookie season and defensively they have been better for the most part than anybody ever could have expected,” said Egger.
While things are looking up for the team, Egger believes there is still a lot of work to do, especially in tight games.
“They are a play away from being 5-0, but frankly they are also a play away from being 1-4,” said Egger.
On Sunday, the team travels to Detroit to take on the Lions. A win against the 0-5 Lions would give them a record of 4-2, and if Baltimore loses to an explosive Chargers team on Sunday, they would be tied for first place in the AFC North division.
“I don’t think there isn’t a Bengals fan alive who wouldn’t have settled for that before the season started,” said Eggert. “They go to Detroit on Sunday, and they are road favorites. They have a better football team than Detroit does, so if the better team plays like it they should win this game.”
It will be important for Joe Burrow and the Bengals to stay focused on getting a win in Detroit and not look too far into the future. Next week they play the Baltimore Ravens in a crucial AFC North matchup, in what should be a great game.
But until then, Bengals fans can enjoy a matchup between two of the biggest quarterbacks over the last few years with Jared Goff and Joe Burrow going head to head.
