——

And that gets us up-to-date to today!  It truly was a wild, wild ride in 2015 but for me, personally, it was one of the greatest years of my life.  It’s too bad it had to coincide with one of the worst years in Roughriders franchise history but it’s still a thrill and a privilege to cover Canada’s Team on a daily basis.  It’s great to go to work every day to do something that matters!

To conclude, we’re naming Saskatchewan Roughriders President Craig Reynolds as the 2015 RodPedersen.com Newsmaker of the Year.  His inaugural campaign which officially began April 1 after the retirement of Jim Hopson was filled with ups and downs, trials and tribulations, but the Foam Lake, SK product showed exemplary leadership by making perhaps the biggest hire in CFL history in Chris Jones and his accompanying staff.  It showed all why Reynolds was the top choice to succeed Hopson all along, and he has reset the direction of the CFL’s greatest franchise for years ahead.

HERE’S TO A GREAT 2016!

Wow! "17 year am radio" contract extension? Another contract negotiation by "wallet man Brendan Taman" one would assume.

Why would they sign that long of a contract with ckrm? Things in life can change…

You gotta know that was typical business of the last regime.

That's what I thought 17 years seemed a weird number and a bit ridiculous. But what else would you expect around here.

17 years who cares? There really isn't anyone else that could do as good of a job. Long term media security for a fan base demanding info is one problem Mr Jones does not need to worry about. It's also highly probable that CKRM works on the cheap. Without the rider fans they would have few loyal listeners and no chance of young listeners tuning in. Smart deal for both sides.

Perhaps they picked 17 years for a reason? I am just going out a limb here but I would think that the people who run Harvard Broadcasting and the people who run the Riders have a better business acumen than most of those people who post comments on this blog ( including myself).

17 is not a weird number. 13 would be weird.

In 17 years time I foresee that Carm will be that generation of CKRM listener's John Frenzy, maybe going by Cranky Carm.

Two thumbs up Rod! Huge optimism for the next few years for the Riders!

Are you really dumb enough to think that the "last regime" had anything at all to do with the radio deal? Get serious!

And if you were really following you would know this is the same kind of deal that mosaic signed because of new stadium.

Rider nation! SMH.

Irresponsible past regime grasping at straws totally responsible for signing outrageous contracts that make no sense "long term"? AM radio? 17 years? etc etc… New franchise/team personnel direction a welcome relief moving forward.

Holy crap.

I guarantee the rights deal had nothing to do with the 'old' regime.

When a team and it's media partner have a positive relationship, deals happen.

Could there have been more money on another station? Maybe. But why would anyone in the public care? That's between the team and the radio rights holders.

Take off your tinfoil hats.

By the way, thanks for the list Rod. Had already forgotten some of the things on there – and blocked out others.

Sorry but it should be pointed out. MLSE did not buy the Argos – Bell Media and Larry Tanenbaum (2/3 of MLSE) bought the Argos, without Rogers Media. Rogers indifference to the CFL continues, though it's probably hurting their (slim) chances of landing an NFL team more than it's helping.

Overall loved the recap. Thanks Rod!
