WHEAT KINGS 7 WARRIORS 3


BRANDON, Man. – Tim McGauley found the back of the net three times to power the Brandon Wheat Kings into the next round of the Western Hockey League playoffs with a 7-3 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday.

Tyler Coulter scored one goal and set up two more for Brandon, which won the best-of-seven series in five games. Ty Lewis, Mitch Wheaton and Macoy Erkamps also scored.

Jayden Halbewachs had a goal and an assist for the Warriors. Tanner Jeannot and Nikita Popugaev supplied the rest of the offence.

Wheat Kings goaltender Jordan Papirny made 26 saves. Moose Jaw’s Zach Sawchenko stopped 29 shots in the losing effort.

Brandon was 1 for 3 on the power play while the Warriors went 1 for 4.

THUNDERBIRDS 2 SILVERTIPS 1

EVERETT, Wash. – Ryan Gropp’s second period goal stood as the winner and Seattle took a 3-1 series lead with a win over the Silvertips. Josh Ulrich also scored with Gropp tacking on an assist. Patrick Baljov scored for Everett.

ROCKETS 4 ROYALS 1

VICTORIA – Rourke Chartier scored twice to lift Kelowna to a 3-2 series lead over the Royals. Justin Kirland and Tyson Bailie also found the back of the net for the Rockets. Matthew Phillips supplied the offence for Victoria.

Nice to see worriers fans so quiet just like sliders fans all talk no action

It was a good season for the Warriors. The playoff experience will help them going forward. Hopefully we are on a collision course with the Nasty Pats!! Go Warriors!!
