THE WEDNESDAY THRILLER … WITH PHIL ANDREWS
Voice of the Pats Phil Andrews |
Happy Wednesday everyone! Lets get right to it:
– First off I want to publicly thank Terry and Gayleen at Northern Lights Lodge at Limestone Lake. The two run a wheelchair accessible fishing camp and My Dad, Brother and I (pictured below) had an awesome four days catching fish and having a great time at our annual trip. THANK YOU! If you are looking for a chance to get out on the water I would highly recommend Northern Lights. They will take care of you.
-Former Regina Pats forward Patrick D’Amico has wrapped up development camp with the New Jersey Devils. The Winnipeg product was a standout at camp I’m told. Now it’s a waiting game on a contract. I am guessing one will get done this week and that’s so good to hear for Patrick. He had a heck of an overage season and will get his shot to prove himself in the pros. He is shown below on the ice this last week.
– Defenceman Carter Hansen will not be returning to the Pats for his 20-year-old season. The Craven Saskatchewan product has committed to join the Melville Millionaires of the SJHL for 2015/16. Wishing ‘Hanny’ all the best, a great person who will be missed.
– Can you believe WHL training camps will open in a months time? I can’t wait but wow does the off-season ever fly by. Speaking of training camps, the Regina Thunder open theirs not this weekend but the weekend after. Going to be an exciting year for junior football in Regina.
– The Regina Pats were the presenting sponsor of the Regina Red Sox and Weyburn Beavers on Sunday at Currie Field. The Red Sox won in 10 innings 5-4 over the 1st place Beavers for their third straight victory and improved to 18-10 on the season. I’m told K9 threw quite a heater of a first pitch to get things started. (shown below).
– The Red Sox have turned it around of late and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Last night Bryson Shelton hit a go ahead homerun in the top of the 9th on the road in Lethbridge and Regina held on to beat the Bulls for their 4th straight win. They have won 6 of 8 overall and are within a game of 500 with 9 games left on the regular season schedule. They play in Lethbridge again tonight, next home game is Saturday against Mellville at 7 at Currie Field.
– The British Open was just a great spectacle of golf. The drama on the final day Monday was incredible. Seeing the amateur Paul Dunne sharing the 56 hole lead was so cool. I was half pulling for Jordan Spieth to pull it off at a major for a third time this year but came up a stroke too many and Zach Johnson won it all in the playoff. He’s one of those fee good stories you love to see. I thought ESPN did a heck of a job broadcasting the tournament as well.
– The Blue Jays got a big win last night over the Oakland Athletics. The A’s fans were very receptive to Josh Donaldson in his return to his former home city. I’m guessing everyone involved in the Athletics organization is kicking themselves for that trade considering the season Donaldson is having. On the baseball side of things, I think the Jays need to load up before the deadline and go for it. The AL East is up for grabs and a couple arms would put Toronto over the top. I don’t even mind giving up a prospect like Daniel Norris or the like if it means some post season baseball.
I don’t have much else for you today, was disconnected for most of the weekend up north. Hope everyone has a good week and hopefully we are talking about a 1 and 4 Rider team by this time next week.

Haven't watched golf since the tiger debacle, haven't missed it and am probably the only one
You put a lot of work into this Phil. It is always Informative , offers variety , and is a good read. Thanks for this!
Which one is your dad, no pun intended? Gents in a beautiful happy place. Nice pic.
Good for D'Amico, he was a solid leader for the Pat's. For a kid that made the Pat's, was cut, sent to the MJHL, recalled and now has a shot at pro it doesn't get any better
The only real Thrill to be found these days in Saskatchewan is catching a big fish; next best thing to a Rider win.
