THE WEDNESDAY THRILLER … WITH PHIL ANDREWS

Voice of the Pats Phil Andrews

I had the amazing privilege of spending the last week in Ocho Rios, Jamaica at the RIU Resort. My wife’s sister Kaitlin got married to Dustin Riley. It was a great week.  There are some photos at the bottom of the column from our trip.

On the to the world of sports. I felt pretty disconnected out there without TV but I’ve managed to get caught up since.

-The Pats hit the road today ahead of Friday’s game against the Kootenay Ice and then the game Saturday in Lethbridge. A big four points with the Pats having lost 5 in a row. They do have two points in that stretch however. They sit 8 points up on Swift Current for second spot in the East Division with 24 games left on their schedule.

-Taylor Cooper has been great as a Pat. 7 goals and 4 assists in 9 games. And how about Adam Brooks? 20 goals on the season. What a break out year for the 18-year-old.

-I would be surprised if James Hilsendager didn’t return to the Pats lineup this weekend. He’s been out since before Christmas with an upper body injury.

-I don’t care about the NHL All-Star Game. It’s pointless. They need to make it mean something like in baseball or scrap it all together.

-Martin Brodeur will announce his retirement tomorrow in St. Louis and will join the Blues management staff. Is there any doubt he is the best of all time? Not in my mind.

-I like the Rider trade with the Argos that sent Ricky Foley to Toronto for linebacker Shea Emery. The Riders were and are deep at DE and could afford to give Foley up for Emery who will fill a desperate need in the middle of the defense. Also good to see Tyron Brackenridge re-sign with the club.

That’s it from me today. Be sure to check out tonight’s episode of Pats TV at 6:30 on Access 7. My guests this week are defenceman Colby Williams and forward Taylor Cooper.

Have a great week and talk to you from Cranbrook on Friday.

A big thanks to the Pats ownership for allowing me to take the week and go with my family. I missed being in the booth and look forward to Friday in Cranbrook against the Kootenay Ice.

You didn't frequent the sports bar downstairs Phil? How about some purple rains?

Nice backdrop for the wedding. It does seem that "tats" are very popular with a segment of the fairer sex.
