University of Regina Rams players Jaxon Ford, Bennett Stusek, and Ryder Varga were named Wednesday by U SPORTS to the Team West roster for the 2021 East-West Bowl.
This year’s East-West Bowl showcases eligible prospects for the 2022 CFL Draft. Last year Kyle Borsa, Robbie Lowes, and Kyler Mosley of the Rams were all named to the East-West Bowl roster, but the event was cancelled due to the effects of COVID-19.
And it’ll be much the same story this year, as the rosters for both teams will be recognized but the players won’t get together to play an actual game.
Ford, Stusek, and Varga all hail from Regina and have played major roles for the Rams over the past few seasons.
Ford has been a key part of the team’s defensive backfield from the minute he stepped on campus in 2018, starting 12 conference games at halfback and three at safety in his two U SPORTS seasons. He’s accumulated 62 total tackles including 4.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, and seven pass deflections for the Rams.
Stusek, who was Ford’s high school teammate at Campbell Collegiate, also made an immediate impact for the Rams right out of high school in 2018. He stepped right into a starting slotback position and has piled up 54 receptions, 918 receiving yards, and three touchdown catches in his two years at the U of R.
Varga was a prized member of the team’s 2017 recruiting class after starring at LeBoldus and redshirted his first season on campus. He emerged as the team’s starting mac linebacker in 2019, leading the Rams in tackles while also registering a team-leading 7.5 tackles for loss.
All three players have three seasons of U SPORTS eligibility remaining.
