THUNDER ADVANCE TO PFC FINAL

The Regina Thunder are off to the Prairie Football Conference championship final after a 26-17 victory over the Edmonton Huskies in a PFC semifinal game Sunday afternoon at Mosaic Stadium.

In just the franchise’s second-ever home playoff game, the Thunder jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter thanks in part to a pair of Nick Brown rushing touchdowns.  Regina also led 16-0 at the break and 19-10 going into the fourth.

Brown’s two touchdowns were part of a 141-yard day on the ground.  Regina quarterback Asher Hastings was 25/32 for 254 yards and a touchdown pass to receiver Will Heward.  Heward led all Thunder receivers with 105 yards in the air.  Kicker William McGee chipped in with a 14-yard field goal making him 1/1 for the afternoon.

The Thunder now head north to face the Saskatoon Hilltops in the PFC championship game next Sunday.  The Hilltops advanced with a home victory over the Edmonton Wildcats Sunday afternoon.  The 2013 championship game will be a rematch of last year’s title game which the Toppers won.
