Missing star quarterback Sawyer Buettner and a handful of others battling a flu virus, the Regina Thunder downed the Calgary Colts 33-15 Sunday at Mosaic Stadium.

In Buettner’s absence, back-up Brock Sich went 11/19 for 190 yards and scored a rushing touchdown in helping Regina’s junior football team improve to 5-2.

In fact the Thunder again used a punishing ground attack – rolling up 208 yards along the ground – to romp to victory. Tailback Victor St. Pierre-Laviolette led the way with 169 rushing yards and a TD. Joel Senko added two more rushing TDs for the home side.

Levi Paul led all Thunder receivers with 92 yards on three receptions.

Eric Maximuik was 1/3 on field goals as the Thunder led 10-0, 19-3 and 33-15 by quarters.

The Thunder will close out the regular season next Saturday night at the Winnipeg Rifles before getting ready for the playoffs.
