JORDAN WILLIAMS DEALT FROM B.C. TO TORONTO
A desire to be closer to family prompted Jordan Williams to broach the idea of a trade with the B.C. Lions.
The Lions reciprocated Thursday, sending the CFL’s top rookie in 2021 to the Toronto Argonauts for a ’23 first-round draft pick.”`It’s been a great experience being in the league in terms of a learning curve in comparison to the south,” Williams said in a telephone interview. “I had a real fun time and great camaraderie with my (Lions) teammates.
“But I wanted to be in the East because I have relatives that live in the area. It’s also great to be going from one winning culture to another, that’s definitely a plus-plus. There were other teams interested in the area but my No. 1 destination was to be a Toronto Argo.”
LIONS RE-SIGN CHUNGH
The Lions also signed Canadian offensive lineman Sukh Chungh to a two-year contract extension. The six-foot-four, 315-pound native of Port Coquitlam, B.C., was scheduled to become a free agent Tuesday.
Chungh has spent the last three seasons with B.C. after starting his CFL career with Winnipeg (2015-18). He started 16 games last year with the Lions at right guard.
PRUNEAU RETIRES
Also on Thursday, Canadian defensive back Antoine Pruneau retired after eight seasons with Ottawa.
“Antoine Pruneau is synonymous with Redblacks football,” head coach Bob Dyce said. “The passion he brought to the field was unmatched.
“He took great pride in wearing the ‘R’ and it was evident in his leadership and play. I know he will bring the same energy to the next chapter of his career. We thank him and wish he and his family nothing but the best.”
Pruneau, of Laval, Que., was selected in the first round, No. 4 overall, in the 2014 CFL draft out of Montreal. The six-foot-one, 200-pound Pruneau appeared in a club-record 122 career regular-season games, registering 374 tackles, 74 special-teams tackles, four sacks, 10 interceptions and four forced fumbles.
Pruneau, 33, appeared in three Grey Cup games, winning in 2016.
THURMAN TO TICATS
Jameer Thurman is on the move.
A CFL source said the veteran linebacker has agreed to terms on a contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The six-foot, 227-pound American has spent the last four seasons with the Calgary Stampeders.
Thurman, 28, was slated to become a free agent Tuesday but pending free agents have been able to speak with teams since Sunday as per the league’s negotiating window.
The Ticats’ move comes a day after veteran Jovan Santos-Knox agreed to a two-year deal with the Ottawa Redblacks.

Good luck to you Cody. It’s shameful the way the team treated you. You aren’t the first though, Durant, Getzlaf, Jurasin and many others all got shafted.
Wrong. Shafted? Cody got $400K for site unseen, spec work – came time to deliver. It didn’t happen. In the NFL you guys love so much – Not-For-Long. Getzlaf – Now this one I’ll go to my grave. This was the epitiome of the Ratio not working. Classic example of where a guy plays off the roster versus on the roster and for all the catches, I’ll list them in order the key drops – This was not a featured receiver and there were other guys that got more focus – he was in the team picture. So he ain’t… Read more »
Playing for Maas again? I pity Cody,
this reunion with Maas and Cody is going to be an interesting one to follow. Plus, throw in the reality of Cody playing behind a different Oline also brings that into the discussion of how he will perform with a different Oline and if that was the actual problem in sask or if it was all on Fajardo. But, overall it didnt look to me as if the two were on the same page last year with the Riders. I guess we will see how this reunion plays out. I would be willing to bet it ends up the same… Read more »
Riders wreck another good man.
Shameful, and they wonder why they can’t get players to come here.
Show them wrong Cody!!!!!
How did we wreck him. If you don’t perform you don’t get a job
The Riders screwed Cody! I hope he makes them pay!
