THURSDAY COMMENTARY – EXCITING TIMES!

THESE ARE EXCITING TIMES.

VERY EXCITING TIMES!

THERE HASN’T BEEN THIS MUCH TALK ABOUT THE VANIER CUP IN THESE CIRCLES IN MANY YEARS BUT ON SATURDAY THE U OF S HUSKIES WILL OPPOSE THE WESTERN MUSTANGS IN THE CANADIAN UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IN QUEBEC CITY.

A REGINA KID – RIFFEL GRAD MASON NYHUS – WILL QUARTERBACK THE HUSKIES IN THE SCHOOL’S 10THAPPEARANCE IN THE VANIER. HIS DAD JUST HAPPENS TO BE MY BEST FRIEND.

I WOULD HOPE MOST OF SASKATCHEWAN WILL BE GATHERED AROUND THEIR TV SET ON SATURDAY. KICKOFF IS AT NOON ON CBC. THIS IS WHAT MEMORIES ARE MADE OF.

THEN NEWS CAME DOWN ON WEDNESDAY THAT REGINA PATS STAR CONNOR BEDARD IS AMONG 35 PLAYERS INVITED TO CANADA’S WORLD JUNIOR TEAM TRYOUT CAMP NEXT WEEK. THE LAST 16-YEAR OLD TO PLAY FOR TEAM CANADA WAS A FELLOW NAMED CONNOR MCDAVID.

SHOOT, I THOUGHT BEDARD SHOULD’VE BEEN ON THE TEAM IN EDMONTON LAST YEAR, AT AGE 15, SO WEDNESDAY’S NEWS CAME AS NO SURPRISE TO ME.

I KNOW HOW HOCKEY CANADA WORKS, AND I APPLAUD IT.

HAVE THE PATS STILL PLACED THE MOST PLAYERS ON TEAM CANADA IN HISTORY? WE USED TO KEEP TRACK OF THAT SORT OF THING, BUT TIMES AREN’T WHAT THEY USED TO BE. I KNOW THE LAST REGINA PAT TO SUIT UP FOR TEAM CANADA IS SAM STEEL.

AND FINALLY, THE CFL DIVISION FINALS GO THIS SUNDAY AND NOTHING’S CHANGED FROM PAST YEARS; THESE ARE EXTREMELY LONG WEEKS OF ANTICIPATION.

WE’LL SAVE THE SCORE PREDICTION FOR FRIDAY’S COMMENTARY. FOR NOW, I’M JUST ENJOYING ABSORBING THE MADNESS AND THE PREVIEWS FROM THE BEST TIME OF THE FOOTBALL YEAR.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

I am a luddite with technology. If the kingdom of heaven truly exists on Earth as a wise fellow once stated there will be a way to watch this game on TV. I believe TSN will have it. Saturday is Vanier Cup and Big 10 Championship. Sunday are CFL division finals. Pure bliss. Minor point. I have to take a step back and realize how fortunate I was to grow up with CKRM always on in the kitchen, and I woke up to it until a few months ago. The news/sports/weather and music was absolute must listen too radio starting… Read more »
