Thursday Commentary: Hockey Night In Florida
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It feels like a day to empty the notebook of Random Thoughts. Here we go:
#1 – You’ve heard of Hockey Night In Canada? It’s pretty special. So too is Hockey Night In Florida, and we’ve got one of those tonight.
The Tampa Bay Lightning put their 2-0 record on the line when they host the Vegas Golden Knights while the Florida Panthers return home from a four-game road trip to welcome the Vancouver Canucks.
Both games will be soldout.
#2 – Turns out I won’t be at either game. I’ve got a 6 am flight Friday to return to Saskatchewan for Saturday night’s first-ever Wolseley Sports Celebrity Dinner, benefitting the Wolseley Sportsplex.
Sports greats Bob Poley, Lorne Molleken, Larry Mueller, Gil Dash and I will be Hot Stove’ing and I can guarantee right now that it’s going to be a fabulous night!
Only 40 tickets remain and you can get yours by calling Vance Weber at 306-698-7337. See you there!
#3 – Couldn’t be happier for Calgary sports fans that the Flames are 4-0. It matches their best start in franchise history and marks the first time since 2009 that the Flames are #1 overall in the NHL.
I don’t expect it to last mind you, because they’re in Year 1 of a rebuild, so enjoy it while it lasts.
Meanwhile across town I’m wondering how the CFL’s Stampeders missing the playoffs for the first time in 19 years will affect that franchise?
It seems their attendance was up this season, but their on-field performance was wayyyy down.
I won’t take shots at Coach & GM Dave Dickenson because he’s always been good to me – even appearing live on the RP Show at Grey Eagle Casino a couple years ago – but I’m eager to see how they dig their way out of this.
Now … back to packing.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
