It seems like some people will never learn. Therefore, it’s best to just watch from the sidelines and pray that one day they will.

Game 1 of the NHL Western Conference Final Wednesday night is a great example. The Oilers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a dandy Leon Draisaitl goal in Dallas, and held a 3-1 lead after two periods.

Like any good sports fan, I was following along on social media seeing what the media and fans had to say. The comments were predictable; “The Stars are done!”, “The Oilers can’t be stopped!”

Then the roof caved in on Edmonton in the third period.

They allowed five unanswered goals and lost 6-3 to the Stars, falling down 1-0 in the series. Last year the Oilers won Game 1 when the two teams, and Edmonton went on to take the series.

As quick as people were to say the Oilers had this one in the bag, they turned just as quickly to write them off.

Honestly, it’s exhausting. Eventually you just have to put your phone away.

When will they learn that it’s not over till it’s over?

I’m talking about the media and fans, not the Edmonton Oilers, but the same applies there too I guess.

And then the other side of it is being in the prediction business. On the RP Show Facebook page I noted on Wednesday that I’m taking the Stars to win this series in six games.

That came with predictable comments like, “You’ve always been an Oilers and Elks hater!” Or “That’s good because you’re always wrong!”

Of course neither is true. You can look it up.

As my buddies in the sports betting business say, “58% correct pays!” And never forget, it’s not over till it’s over.

Maybe one day they’ll learn.
