THURSDAY COMMENTARY – MORE THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

It’s so much fun, let’s do another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly …

First, the good: Three nights into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the action has actually been exceptional. Better than good. Although, I could do without the nightly complaining about officiating. But that’s never going to change.

The one anomaly in these playoffs is the success of the road teams. Through the first two nights, six of the eight road teams won which had the bettors scratching their heads.

However the ship was righted on Wednesday with all the home teams winning. The Leafs will be hoping that trend continues tonight.

Next, the great: The CFL announced on Wednesday that the 2023 Grey Cup in Sask generated close to $70-million for the province.

That’s spectacular considering the Riders weren’t even in the game; in fact it’s far more than I’d have thought.

Millions upon millions were spent in the Queen City and so many jobs were created. I just can’t fathom why anyone would be against sports, big events and new venues. The payoff is massive.

Next time the Grey Cup rolls around in Sask, hopefully the Riders are in position to be in it.

And lastly, the ugly: I’m expecting some earth-shaking news to drop to in the next 24-48 hours that no one will see coming. I certainly did not see it coming.

It’s real crappy to have to put it that way, and I know it drives the fans nuts. But I’m told the Edmonton Oilers are still mad at me for breaking the Ken Holland news four years ago.

I don’t need that, so I’ll just sit on the news for when, or even if, it comes out.

That’s how this business has changed, and that’s ugly.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Hopefully the news out of Edmonton is Chris Jones leaving there again and rejoining the Saskatchewan Roughriders with full control of all operations.

Just sad that all the Rider fans didn’t go to the game…….didn’t look good on TV, the sparsely filled stadium…… I get it, I’m a season ticket holder from Edmonton but unloaded mine as soon as Riders were out. Greatest fans? Why didn’t you show up? Meh.
