THURSDAY COMMENTARY – WANT THE RECIPE?

What’s the name of that song that goes, “Round and round it goes … Where it stops nobody knows?” And who wrote it?

Were they referring to the world? Or a merry go ‘round? Or both?

For a change, I’ve got a lot more questions today than answers.

Longtime friend Theoren Fleury stopped by the RP Show at Grey Eagle Casino in Calgary on Wednesday and people are still talking about it.

Why? Because Theo opened the big can of worms about his exclusion from the Hockey Hall of Fame despite boasting, clearly, a Hall of Fame resume.

Frankly we don’t have enough time to get into it all here today but Theo’s critics say he’s not in the Hall due to his anti-Trudeau and anti-Vaxx stances.

But umm, I don’t think that’s it. He’s been retired for exactly 20 years and that other stuff has only come out recently. My guess it has something to do with his Addiction battles.

In either case, it shouldn’t matter. Over a thousand points in over a thousand games, a Stanley Cup, Olympic gold medal and World Junior title qualifies him for the Hockey Hall of Fame.

End of story.

How these Hall of Fames got so politicized over the years is beyond me, and honestly it’s taken a lot of fun out of the debate.

But things are evolving for sure. In my world, definitely.

People came at me with both guns a’blazing for even having Theo on my show, but they soon realized that their venom doesn’t matter. We’re in the entertainment business doncha know, and sponsors want ratings. We got ‘em yesterday.

They say Theo promotes hate, but then spew 10 times as much. So ironic!

There are public people I don’t like, nor agree with. Guess what? I don’t follow them! It’s actually pretty simple.

But seem people get off on arguing, or looking down on others and calling them out. What I’ve learned about them is they’re deeply disturbed individuals and should be pitied, not engaged.

Anyway, to me, Theo is still just Theo from Oxbow, SK. The former Moose Jaw Warrior.

I don’t really care what his political views are. I agree with some but don’t agree with others. We’ve sat at his kitchen island and debated them, agreeing to disagree.

I accept all opinions, even if I don’t necessarily agree or endorse them. (James Reimer anyone?)

It’s brought my stress level wayyyyyyyy down, and I’m sleeping great.

Want the recipe for that?

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

There is a massive difference between Theo Fleury versus a James Reimer. Theo Fleury – I could stand all day beside him, offer to carry his bags, and basically say the man was worth the price of a ticket. He never cheated the game and if there was a war on ice be it MJ/Regina, Edm/Cal, then I guarantee his oposition would trade for him on any given day and twice on Sunday. – the end of his career didn’t go so well, but what person’s does? Having stated that I would not agree with a single peep out of… Read more »

My kids have opinions I don’t agree with. That doesn’t mean I can’t have a conversation with them.
People need to grow up and realize that just because another person thoughts don’t line up exactly with yours doesn’t mean they are horrible devils.

Disagree. Some of them are horrible devils. That’s an appropriate term. The biggest success the Devil ever had was convincing people he didn’t exist. Take in point 1944. Tommy Douglas comes around using parables and this guy was a Preacher. He got a bunch of first/second generation immigrants to buy into his view points. I can tell you the manifestation of socialism is evil and I believe anti-christ centric. These lovers consolidated power at the top for their mediocre friends to run. The rest were left scrambling for crumbs. It killed entrepreneurial ingenuity for generations and our best and brightest… Read more »
