THURSDAY RUNDOWN: BEDARD, AUSTIN, MORREALE & MORE!

Thursday’s Episode #713 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – was jam-packed at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino! Here’s the rundown:

• RP and Calgary Sun writer Danny Austin got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday’s NHL leftovers, 2) Is Auston Matthews indeed the NHL’s best player? (The host think it’s Connor McDavid), 3) The Raptors deny Gregg Popovich history, beating his Spurs 119-104, 4) The latest from the Brier and Braeden Moskowy breaks his silence. Sort of. 5) The latest CHL Top 10 rankings are in and the Edmonton Oil Kings are #1, and 6) The NFL QB shakeup this week with moves by Wilson, Wentz and Rodgers.
• Danny Austin is the beat writer for the Stampeders, Hitmen and occasionally the Flames so he brought a perspective on all leagues. Regarding the CFL in Toronto – being Toronto born and raised – Danny feels the Argonauts situation cannot be repaired, even with Pinball Clemons at the helm. Rod suggested it’s time for the Moncton Argonauts. “That has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?”
• NHL.com Minnesota Wild writer Jessi Pierce – who also hosts the Bardown Beauties podcast – joined the show to discuss the Minnesota state high school hockey championship which is filling the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul! She reviewed the field, and also discussed the strong season of the NHL’s Wild. She called it, saying the off-season buyouts of Parise and Suter were NOT the sign of a rebuild.
• CEBL Commissioner Mike Morreale joined the show in advance of the BCLA continental pro basketball tournament in Calgary next week featuring Canadian reps, the Edmonton Stingers. Mike talked about the Stingers/Canada’s 1-3 record so far in the group stage, and what the basketball will be like at WinSport Arena. The CEBL has partnered with The RP Show to promote the event, and tickets are on sale now at CEBL.ca.
• The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who is the NHL’s best player – Matthews, McDavid, Ovechkin or Shesterkin? At press time, McDavid was way out in front.
• Regina Pats star Connor Bedard joined the show to preview this weekend’s home games against Lethbridge and Calgary. Connor discussed dazzling fans in Calgary with two recent Pats visits and admitted the Saddledome is one of his favourite places to play, saying it has the best ice. Bedard talked about his two seasons in Regina, and point-per-game output, and much, much more. He said he enjoys the fact that WHL goalies save their best games for when they face him and the Pats.
• Wednesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Theoren Fleury. Thursday’s was CONNOR BEDARD.
