THURSDAY RUNDOWN: CAVALRY FC, COREY HIRSCH AND MORE
These are big days in sports and we hit ’em all on Thursday’s Episode #745 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – live from Grey Eagle Resort & Casino! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and co-host Lee Genier – award-winning sports executive – kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers and why does everyone hate the Vegas Golden Knights?, 2) The Red Sox spank the Blue Jays 7-1, 3) The Raptors host the 76ers in Game 6 of their first round NBA series, 4) Junior hockey notes, 5) Previewing the final weekend of the NLL regular season (the Saskatchewan Rush have already been eliminated), and 6) The NFL Draft opens Thursday night in Las Vegas.
- The panel also debated the CFL rule changes and the comments by former Blue Bombers head coach Mike Kelly that none of them were necessary. The guys also looked ahead to the NFL Draft.
- Vancouver Canucks radio analyst and NHL alum Corey Hirsch joined the show to discuss his WHL career wins record (by a goalie) falling to Saskatoon Blades goalie Nolan Maier. Hirsch implored NHL teams to give him a tryout! The Medicine Hat product also recapped the Canucks season and said he hopes the team retains Head Coach Bruce Boudreau. Corey felt the Canucks just dug themselves too big of a hole at the start of the season to climb out of.
- We had a special treat in Hour as Calgary Calvary FC GM & Head Coach Tommy Wheeldon of the Canadian Premier League dropped by the show, bringing gifts of team scarves for Rod and Lee. Tommy discussed the entire CPL landscape, including the effort to get an expansion team in Saskatoon, and previewed Sunday’s home opener at Atco Stadium (Spruce Meadows) against Pacific FC. Tommy was an extremely energetic guest and the viewers loved him!
- Wednesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Peter Loubardias. Thursday’s was Tommy Wheeldon.
- See you Friday at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive for a Flame Tech Football Friday! Our guest list includes Cincinnati sports talk host Mo Egger and Calgary Sun writer Danny Austin.
