THURSDAY RUNDOWN: COSENTINO, SEKERES, LANG AND MORE

Thursday’s Episode #904 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – was jampacked on YouTube Live and WQEE Radio (we were pre-empted on Game+ TV)! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL leftovers including the Canucks topping the Flames in a shootout for their sixth consecutive road win, 2) Who will Canada’s goalies be in the World Cup? (Rod chose Carter Hart and Carey Price while Moose went with Hart and Tristan Jarry), 3) Darren’s Top NFL 5 are PHI – CIN – SF – KC – DAL, 4) CFL notes including Nathan Rourke’s future and new Riders O.C. Kelly Jeffrey saying Cody Fajardo could lead the Riders to the Grey Cup, 5) The Raptors & Hawks lose Wednesday night in the NBA and 6) Dub Hub including the Pats’ comeback victory over Spokane.
  • One half of the Vancouver podcast Sekeres & Price – Matthew Sekeres – joined the show for a look at west coast sports teams. He feels the Canucks have righted the ship after their worst start in franchise history and reported fans are optimistic. Rod wondered why there’s so much trade talk around the Canucks and Sekeres explained they’ve got players on expiring deals and not much coming up in the system. Regarding the future of the BC Lions, Matt said the team’s preparing for life without Nathan Rourke but could still be a contender due to their strong defense, great receiver group, but a question mark looms at quarterback.
  • It was Day 13 of our NHL Reverse Retro Jersey Bracket. The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Whose Reverse Retro is better – Ottawa or Toronto? At press time, the Maple Leafs were leading.
  • Sportsnet NHL & Prospect Insider Sam Cosentino joined the show for a deep preview on the upcoming World Juniors Tournament. Sam went through the Canadian roster and discussed the pressure on Canada’s Connor Bedard and Shane Wright. Sammy previewed the field and examined the exclusions of Mason McTavish (Anaheim) and Cole Sillinger (Columbus) whom are staying in the NHL.
  • Canada’s foremost NFL expert Jim Lang joined the show for a look at Week 15. He previewed the Thursday Night Football clash in Seattle between the 49ers and Seahawks. Jim wasn’t surprised by Baker Mayfield’s showing in his L.A. Rams debut, said this is likely “it” for Tom Brady with a sad conclusion, and answered several viewer questions.
  • Wednesday’s Rockstar of the Day was Seattle Kraken broadcaster Mike Benton. Thursday’s was Jim Lang!
  • If you missed the show you can catch the replay on our YouTube Channel, at your favourite podcast platform or on our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
  • See you Friday at 12 pm ET for a Football Friday on YouTube Live and WQEE Radio. Our guests include 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk and Sports Illustrated Dolphins writer Alain Poupart.

I read that interview with Kelly Jeffrey and I love it. He said it’s up to the OC to build a game plan around a team’s strength. Not the other way around where 12 guys are supposed to re-invent themselves to suit the OC like last year. What Jeffrey said made me think of Ken Miller designing an offense for Kerry Joseph when Kent Austin was the head coach in 2007. Go Riders!

Well yeah it’s -21 so I suppose it is nice to dream I think it is amusing when the Canadian Assistant Coach is in the room and notices what Jason Maas and Travis Moore do not. I mean what do those two know about winning games, championships, and putting together schemes? Then they walk the plank because Mr. Jesus Sprinkles either held onto the ball to long, got run over and/or couldn’t get a 50/50 ball into the deep threat Recieving corps. This will be a good dash on his resume so that down the road he can say he… Read more »
