THURSDAY RUNDOWN: DREGER ON SCHEIFELE, PLUS MORE CUP CRAZY!

We are into the throes of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and two of our good buddies from TSN joined Thursday’s Episode #755 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – to break it all down! Read on for the rundown:

• RP and Moose Dupont got things going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers which included three big comebacks!, 2) Tom Brady will earn more money as a Fox analyst than he ever did as a QB, 3) Dub scores and Dauphin claims the MJHL title in Game 7 at Steinbach, 4) The Yankees sweep the Jays with a 5-3 win, 5) Four teams face elimination Thursday night in the NHL including the Lightning and Oilers, and 6) Charleston Hughes says he made a mistake leaving the Riders. (More on that below).
• TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger joined the show and delved into the Winnipeg Jets off-season. Dregs said he doesn’t envision “a Jets lineup next season with Mark Scheifele in it.” Darren said there are a lot of problems with the franchise but GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has what it takes to fix them. Regarding the Lightning being on the ropes, Dregs says he doesn’t buy the excuse that Tampa is fatigued. Darren and Rod’s friendship goes back to 1993 which was Dregs’ last as Voice of the Wheat Kings and Rod’s first as Voice of the Raiders.
• Viewers chimed in with possible trade spots for Scheifele and they included Montreal, Pittsburgh and several more!
• On the Charleston Hughes thing, Rod mentioned that countless former Riders – including Kory Sheets and Stevie Baggs – said they left the Riders over money but regretted it later. Charleston is just the latest and RP feels you can’t tell people anything until they experience it themselves.
• In Hour 2 we were joined by TSN Hockey Analyst Dave Poulin. He delved into the Leafs/Lightning series – saying he picked Tampa to win – and that he’s voted for Tampa’s Jon Cooper as Coach of the Year. However the Flyers & Bruins great said he’d prefer to talk about all the other great series and explained why the Oilers are facing elimination.
• The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who should win the Hart Trophy as NHL Coach of the Year – Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid or Igor Shesterkin? At press time, Matthews was leading.
• Wednesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Hustler Paterson of Winnipeg Sports Talk. Thursday’s was Darren Dreger.
