THURSDAY RUNDOWN: ELKS PRESIDENT VICTOR CUI AND MORE!

We covered it all on Episode #689 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports Talk – on Thursday! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL’s Wednesday games and the league is now on the All Star break, 2) Canada’s Mens National Soccer Team beat El Salvador 2-0 for its sixth straight CONCACAF win, 3) Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz snaps on a reporter and later apologizes (should he have?), 4) The Cleveland Browns dispute tanking claims from former coach Hue Jackson, 5) It’s Day 7 at the Scotties, and 6) Canada destroys Switzerland 12-1 in a pre-Olympic womens hockey game.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre p0ll question was: Are you excited for the Olympics? At press time over 70% of respondents voted no. RP and Moose both voted yes.
  • Sportsnet Oilers host Gene Principe joined the show and was immediately asked about the Coyotes arena situation. Geno said he’s exhausted by the whole saga but loves the Phoenix area and hopes they get it all worked out. Regarding the Oilers, who’ve won five of their last six games going into the break, Gene said it’s a relief and agreed the Evander Kane experiment has worked out well so far. A theme in the show was: Which TV series have you watched every single episode of? Gene said his is Love Boat.
  • Rod’s were WKRP, Cheers and Coach. Darren Dupont’s was Entourage. Viewers were asked to chime in with theirs!
  • The Voice of the Saskatoon Blades, Les “Mr. 2000” Lazaruk, joined the show one night after calling his 2,000th WHL game (a 5-4 Blades win at Regina). Les was adorned in a Blades jersey and thanked the Pats for playing a tribute video prior to the game. Les told some hilarious stories from his time with the Blades including shaving his head after losing a bet with the players, and singing Oh Canada on a dare. He and Rod discussed their special friendship and congratulated each other on their careers going so well!
  • Edmonton Elks President Victor Cui joined the show and told Rod he loves when he uses the term “City of Champions”. Victor said he’s only been on the job for three days but has talked to Elks Head Coach & GM Chris Jones everyday for the past two weeks and was impressed by Jones’ contention that Edmonton will win the 2022 Grey Cup. Cui discussed his career in sports and said it’s culminated in him accepting his “dream job”. It was a very positive and energetic chat.
  • Wednesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Cincinnati’s Mo Egger. Thursday’s was Victor Cui.
