THURSDAY RUNDOWN: KILLER KAMINSKI, SUTTER AND MORE!
Thursdays have always been a big hockey day on The RP Show and this one was no different on Episode #894 of your favourite daytime Sports & Entertainment Talkshow on Game+ TV, YouTube and WQEE Radio! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL leftovers including the Leafs & Oilers Wednesday night wins, 2) RP’s NHL Top 5 are BOS – NJD – VGK – TOR – SEA, 3) The Bottom 5 are ARZ – OTT – CBJ – CHI – ANA, 4) In the NBA the Hawks beat the Magic 125-108 and the Raptors lost 126-108 at the Pelicans, 5) Connor Bedard accounts for all the Pats scoring in a 9-3 loss at Kamloops, and 6) Randoms – Where will Kent Austin end up?
- Rod was ranting for a lot of Hour 1! That included Pats fans being excited about Bedard’s play, but forgetting about them getting clobbered in the ‘Loops. Canada lost its final meaningless game at the World Cup and the panel debated if Canada should be proud of “just being there.”
- The guys talked about the possibility of Kent Austin returning to the CFL but news broke later in the day that the Rider legend is leaving Liberty University for Auburn, where he’ll serve as Offensive Coordinator for Hugh Freeze. RP related stories of his time with Austin and said although he’s not a “warm fuzzy” guy, he wins and that’s his legacy.
- In Hour 2 were joined by 13-year NHL veteran Rich Sutter for a deep dive on the NHL. He said there’s no clear winner in the Tkachuk/Huberdeau trade, saying Florida’s coming out ahead right now but the trade will work out for the Flames too. Sutter also talked about the surge of the Seattle Kraken and said they’re playing with confidence, are getting great goaltending, and have built a great culture. Rich also discussed the play of Connor Bedard and feels he won’t be traded prior to the WHL Trade Deadline.
- It was Day 3 of our NHL Reverse Retro Jersey bracket. Florida beat out Tampa Bay and Vegas downed Arizona so far. Thursday’s Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Whose Reverse Retro is better – NY Islanders or NY Rangers? At press time, the Rangers were leading.
- SJHL La Ronge Ice Wolves Head Coach & GM Kevin “Killer” Kaminski joined the show on an off day during his team’s southern swing. Killer discussed their 17-8-1 record, losing 4-0 in Estevan on Wednesday, and discussed how he turned around the Ice Wolves franchise, being named Coach of the Year in his rookie season. The Churchbridge, SK product said he wants to win at everything he does and if players don’t buy into the Team Concept, it’s “See ya later!”
- Wednesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Sarina Taylor. Thursday’s was Killer Kaminski!
- If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/12 am CT on Game+ TV, on your YouTube Channel or wherever you enjoy your podcasts.
- See you at 12 pm ET Friday for a Football Friday on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and WQEE Radio!
Canada is three and out at the World Cup. But, whoopee-ding they scored a couple of goals.
I wonder how many millions of dollars those two goals cost Canadian taxpayers.
Quitea few as the girls wanted to be paid the same. A complete waste of time.
For the kids out there: An eternal question is why oh why did we not all become Philly fans. Go look up the 1989 NHL Conferance finals when Chelios corked Propp. – The Flyers lost that series, but did everything and anything to take his hide. We all remember Hextall going after him like Hanrahan. Before that it was Rich Sutter that launched a flying elbow that would have made Randy Savage proud. That connected at 66% and had he landed it at 100% Chris Chelios would have been a grease spot and a distant memory in NHL lore. Sutters… Read more »
