THURSDAY RUNDOWN: ROURKE, REINEBOLD, SLOAN & MORE!
Holy smokes did we welcome some big sports names onto Episode #921 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports Talk – on Thursday on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and WQEE! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL leftovers including the Flames 4-1 loss to Colorado and whom would you like to see take Connor Bedard at #1 in the NHL Draft (the hosts both said the Arizona Coyotes, 2) The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was – What should the Flames do with their goaltending situation? Stand Pat, Acquire Someone, Call Up Dustin Wolf or Other? At press time, the majority voted for Stand Pat, 3) NFL Division Playoff Deal Or No Deal for Bet Regal: Jacksonville at Kansas City (-8.5), NY Giants at Philadelphia (-7.5), Cincinnati at Buffalo (-5.5) and Dallas at San Francisco (-4), 4) CFL stuff including the Alouettes ownership saga, Ottawa RedBlacks Defending The R YouTube series, and Cam Judge re-signing in Calgary, 5) NBA – the Hawks bounce the Heat 130-122, and 6) Junior hockey happenings.
- Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nathan Rourke – formerly of the BC Lions – joined the show to discuss his signing this week in the NFL. The 24-year old admitted it hasn’t really sunk in yet. He went into the details of his 12 NFL workouts, the players he met and how the sessions differed. Regarding his time in the CFL, Rourke said what he’ll remember most is learning how to prepare from Lions greats Michael Reilly and Bryan Burnham. Nathan also revealed his little brother Kurtis is a staunch Jaguars fan and how elated his family is with the contract.
- Next up was San Jose Sharks TV/digital contributor Tara Sloan. The former Hometown Hockey host explained that she waited six months for her U.S. visa to be processed before she could work for the Sharks! The Montreal product discussed how this job differs from her past roles, the plight of this year’s Sharks, and San Jose as a hockey town.
- In Hour 2 we were joined by Sky Sports NFL analyst and 32-year pro coach Jeff Reinebold who detailed his long relationship with legendary NFL coach Dick Vermeil. (Reinebold revealed Vermeil offered him a job on the St. Louis Rams staff after he was named head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 1990s). Coach Reinebold then went into a recap of the NFL Wild Card playoff games and previewed this weekend’s divisional match-ups.
