THURSDAY RUNDOWN: THE DUB CURSE AND #TIMETOHUNT

We’re getting down to the nitty grit in the hockey world and we welcomed some of our best hockey buds to Thursday’s Episode #1,007 of The RP Show – Daytime Sportstalk – on Game+ TV, WQEE and Streaming! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got things going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Florida Panthers swept the Carolina Hurricanes and are off to the Stanley Cup Final!, 2) Will Vegas sweep out Dallas in Game 4 on Thursday night?, 3) The Blue Jays wrap up the Tampa series Thursday afternoon, trailing 2-1 this week, 4) NBA Playoffs, 5) The CEBL season tipped off with Ottawa stunning Brampton 95-93 and 6) The Memorial Cup opens Friday night.
  • Calgary Flames broadcaster Peter Loubardias joined the show to discuss the Flames hiring Craig Conroy as GM. Lou said Conroy is the most positively infectious person he’s ever been around. The guys then got into Memorial Cup talk and Pete said the “WHL Curse” is a thing, and the WHL’s woeful record at the Memorial Cup since 2015 proves the league has fallen behind the QMJHL and OHL. Rod disagreed, and the pair promised to discuss it more next week!
  • The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: Will the Golden Knights sweep out the Stars on Thursday night? At press time 68% of voters said yes.
  • Florida Panthers great, broadcaster, and NHL Network analyst Bill Lindsay joined the show to discuss the Panthers Game 4 victory. Bill’s credited with scoring the biggest goal in Panthers history (1996 ECF Game 5 clincher) but said he’d be happy to pass the torch to Matthew Tkachuk and this year’s team. “What we did will never be taken away,” Lindsay said about the team’s famed 1996 run. Bill went on an impassioned speech about how much this year’s run means to him personally. Regarding what first-year coach Paul Maurice has done with this year’s Panthers, Lindsay said Pomo tore a page out of Al Pacino’s pregame speech in the move football movie Any Given Sunday.
  • Wednesday’s Rockstar of the Day was Alan May. Thursday’s was Bill Lindsay!
  • If you missed any of the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/12 am CT on Game+ TV, on our YouTube Channel or wherever you enjoy your podcasts.
  • See you Friday at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, WQEE and Streaming for a Football Friday!

In the what next department;

Reports out of Saskatoon say some rider hopefull barking like a dog at training camp, that’s got to be very annoying to the rest of guys trying to concentrate on making the opening day roster. A little less play, more professionalism needed, quit with the distracting antics.

Any Given Sunday speech. I showed it to my little Biewar Terrier he became a Pitbull. I met you in lamaze class in 1999/2000 and I went to Any Given Sunday when it went to the Coronet cheap theatre – nobody was there. My then 15 month pregnant girlfriend/soon to be wife/future ex wife; fell asleep and I sat there as a 25 year old rivetted. Fast forward – that speech when he says, “I don’t know what to say…..made every mistake a middle aged man can make…….as long as there’s life in me I’ll fight for that inch….” I… Read more »
