Thursday’s show was Episode #58 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • Rod and Dupes were joined in the bunker for The Warmup by The Silver Fox Kelly Remple. They discussed Thursday night’s NFL game in Winnipeg between the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers and how Rod was jealous of the people who would be in attendance. They also talked a little about Week 11 in the CFL, Touchdown Atlantic, and if the football adage is true that defense truly does win championships?
  • U of R Rams head coach Steve Bryce joined the bunker to discuss Wednesday night’s 19-10 home preseason loss to the Manitoba Bisons. Bryce said they got out of the game what they wanted; evaluation, and no injuries. He also said they’re optimistic about the team’s chances this year with first-year starting QB Josh Donnelly, a Leboldus Golden Suns product.
  • Bryce agreed that Rams-Huskies clashes will be special this season with Riffel Royals grad Mason Nyhus leading the UofS. Bryce talked about the games between the two rivals this season and how the game in Regina will be the Rams’ first ever Homecoming Game. It was a fun football chat.
  • Bryce also outlined what he feels are the 3 keys to building a championship program.
  • Former Rider/Eskimo DT Eddie Steele joined the show via video chat from Edmonton, where he is the RP Show Edmonton correspondent. He talked about Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL, Winnipeg at Edmonton on Friday Night Football. He predicts an Eskimo win over the Bombers and their sophomore QB Chris Streveler.
  • When Rod asked Eddie for an assessment of Rider DT Micah Johnson – the highest paid defensive player in the CFL – Steele said the former Stampeder is doing a great job and although his workload may not pay off on the stat sheet, he’s still doing his job. Eddie feels the other interior linemen need to step up more and take advantage of the attention Johnson is drawing.
  • CTV Regina’s Don Hewitt joined the bunker and agreed this Saturday’s Rider home game against Ottawa should amount to merely a speed bump for the Roughriders, who are after a 5th-straight win.
  • In honour of show #58, the guys identified players who’ve worn number-58 in their sports careers. The list includes Shonte Peoples, Von Miller, Kris Letang, Xavier Fulton, Derrick Thomas, Carl Banks, Chase de Leo and Cory Renwick.

  • Dupes will anchor Friday’s show with Rod away at Touchdown Atlantic in Moncton, NB. However Rod will join the show via video chat from the CFL Alumni Association golf tournament in Moncton. Also on the show, Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch and 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk.
