THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: COVERING THE LATEST!
A lot went down during Episode #248 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Debating Darian Durant’s place in Rider history, 2) Saints QB Drew Brees under fire, 3) NHL odds to win the Stanley Cup, 4) NBA odds to win the Larry O’Brien Trophy, 5) The SJHL Draft and their Territorial Rule, and 6) Will the CFL play in 2020? (If money wasn’t an issue, then probably yes. Sadly that’s not the case).
- During the show the NLL announced it has canceled the 2020 Playoffs. As a Saskatchewan Rush season ticket holder, Rod stated that he’s deeply disappointed but the news goes far deeper than that. RP and Dupes surmised that the NLL business model is more similar to the CFL’s than the Big 4 leagues (NFL, NHL, NBA & MLB) so if the NLL can’t find a way to incorporate the Quarantine Cities concept with 20-man rosters, than how could the CFL? It’s deeply disturbing.
- Thursday morning Hockey Canada lifted its ban on sanctioned activities and is allowing the country’s 13 member organizations to individually determine when it’s safe to return to action going by provincial and civic health guidelines. Rod figured this is bad news dressed up as good news, and Hockey Canada has washed its hands of the situation and told hockey organizations to “figure it out yourself”.
- Rod proposed a CFL Live Aid fundraiser and it drew the ire of some viewers who were irked at a comparison to Saskatchewan’s Telemiracle. It created a heated back-and-forth throughout the balance of the show. Rod explained that it’s up to the public how they want to support fundraisers and this isn’t a debate over which cause is more worthy.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: How much would you contribute to a CFL Aid/GoFundMe fundraiser? – $0, $1-$100, $100-$1000 or $1000+? The majority of respondents voted for $1-$100 and Rod quipped that equates to one game ticket. Not enough.
- RP Show NHL Insider and Blue Jackets pro scout Rich Sutter joined the show from Lethbridge to discuss racial unrest in the U.S., the rise of the Philadelphia Flyers and the Columbus/Toronto first-round match-up. “I get more nervous the more I think about it,” Sutter admitted.
- Flames/Leafs/Blades alum Clarke Wilm joined the show from his office in Davidson, SK where he sells farm implements. He talked about his days in the NHL and with the Saskatoon Blades, playoff wars, and the state of minor hockey in Sask since he has three young hockey-playing boys.
- Mental Strength Coach Shayne McGowan (NFL, CFL, Boxing, MMA, etc.) joined the show from Winnipeg to talk about how players can stay mentally fit during the pandemic (“They need to be ready to go at all times,” he said), the Blue Bombers Grey Cup championship, and much more.
- You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the RoxDar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Rich Sutter was leading. Wednesday’s vote was won by Darian Durant.

Riders reporting a loss of $200,000.** 2019/2020 fiscal year but they still not reporting actuals which leaves one wondering what will be the real tall by 2021. Its going to be doozy with no 2020 season and the team still operating almost 99% capacity, administration, team coaches/other, player contracts, new signings, rent, utility bill’s, etc etc.
If you can’t raise more than the price of one game ticket in Saskatchewan, that tells you all you want to know about how the CFL is perceived. I take it this is the rabid Rider fan base who are saying meh so judge for yourself how this would fly in the other league cities. The CFL is going to have to figure it out for themselves. If 2 teams aren’t on board, do you go ahead with the other 7? Not likely. As for Hockey Canada – typically lame. Real lack of leadership has been shown in a lot… Read more »
