A decisive win for the Blue Jays. Ernie Clement hit a three-run homer and had an RBI single as Toronto downed the Giants 10-6 in San Francisco. George Springer drove in three runs for the Jays, and Chris Bassett allowed three runs and five hits with six strikeouts over five innings of work.

OLYMPIC BASKETBALL

R-J Barrett scored 12 points, but Canada couldn’t keep up with Team U-S-A’s superstars in a pre-Olympic tune-up last night. Anthony Davis scored 13 points, and Stephen Curry poured in another 12 as the Americans won 86-72. The seventh-ranked Canadians last saw the top-ranked Americans in the bronze-medal game at the FIBA World Cup in September, when Canada came out on top to win its first-ever medal at the event. 

NBA

Former Toronto Raptor Jontay Porter has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a federal criminal case. The charge is tied to the betting scandal that got him banned from the league. Porter admits he agreed to withdraw early from games so that co-conspirators could win bets on his performance. He says he’s undergone in-patient treatment for a gambling problem and remains in therapy. Porter is set to be sentenced on December 18th.

CFL

The Alouettes will look to keep their perfect record intact tonight as they host the struggling Argonauts. Montreal is 5-0 on the season and riding a 10-game winning streak stretching back to last September. Meanwhile, Toronto has lost its last two outings, including a 30-20 defeat to the Als on June 28th. 

COPA AMERICA

The third-place matchup for this year’s Copa America is set, with Canada taking on Uruguay in Saturday’s consolation game. Fourteenth-ranked Uruguay lost 1-0 to Colombia in semifinal play last night. The number 48 Canadians were blanked 2-0 by reigning World Cup champion Argentina on Tuesday. The championship game goes Sunday.
