THURSDAY SPORTS PAGE: RATTLERS TROUNCE BANDITS IN OPENER
The Saskatchewan Rattlers handed the Vancouver Bandits a 109-85 beat down in their CEBL season opener at SaskTel Centre on Wednesday night (May 31). The Rattlers connected on 22 threes in the blowout victory after the squad let loose 51 attempts. Five Saskatchewan players buried at least a trio of threes, all of whom reached double figures.
Meanwhile Aher Uguak’s 22 points led the Edmonton Stingers (1-2) to their first win of the season, 99-94 over the Niagara River Lions (0-3) Wednesday night. The forward had an efficient night playing in only his second game with the team while also coming off the bench. In 24 minutes, he shot 50 per cent from the field and hit five three-pointers to go along with eight rebounds and two assists.
The Seattle Thunderbirds downed host Kamloops Blazers 6-1 at the Memorial Cup to advance to the semifinal. The Blazers need a win over the Peterborough Petes in Thursday’s tiebreaker to gain a rematch with the T-Birds in the semifinal. The Quebec Remparts have a bye to Sunday’s championship game with a two and one record.

The Toronto Blue Jays send Kevin Gausman to the mound Thursday afternoon against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. The three-game series at Rogers Centre is tied at a win apiece. Freddy Peralta gets the nod for Milwaukee.

Julian Gressel scored twice for the Vancouver Whitecaps in a 6-2 win over visiting Houston Dynamo. All three Canadian MLS clubs were in action with C-F Montreal producing two late goals in a two-minute span to salvage a 2-2 road tie with DC United. Toronto FC played to a scoreless draw with the visiting Chicago Fire.

Canada fell 3-0 to the United States at the world para hockey championship in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Reigning world and Paralympic champion U-S capped the preliminary round with a record of three wins and no losses while the host country dropped to two and one.
