The Chicago Cubs have their first World Series championship in 108 years. Ben Zobrist hit a go-ahead double in the 10th inning and Chicago held on to beat the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in a thrilling Game 7 delayed by rain. Cleveland was trying to win its first crown since 1948, but lost the last two games at home. Zobrist was named MVP.

Make it eight straight wins for the Montreal Canadiens. Carey Price stopped 42 shots for his first shutout of the season as Montreal toppled the Vancouver Canucks 3-0 to remain the only NHL team without a regulation-time loss this season. Nathan Beaulieu, Torrey Mitchell and Alexander Radulov scored for the Habs.

DeMar DeRozan and the Toronto Raptors continue to roll. DeRozan poured in 40 points and outduelled John Wall in a showcase of All-Star guards as Toronto beat the winless Washington Wizards 113-103. DeRozan was 14 of 23 from the floor despite leaving the game briefly to get his ankles taped. The Raptors improved to 3-1.

Russell Westbrook hit a jumper with 18.7 seconds left and finished with 35 points, and the Oklahoma City Thunder remained unbeaten with an 85-83 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. Westbrook added six rebounds and five assists for the Thunder, who surged in the final minutes of a tight meeting between Western Conference contenders.

Eric Bledsoe dropped in a rainbow 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer, giving the Phoenix Suns a 118-115 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Bledsoe finished with 20 points with his only 3 being the game-winner. The shot gave the Suns their first win of the season.

Vern Handrahan, one of only three PEI natives to play Major League Baseball, has died. He was 79. Handrahan signed his first pro contract with the Milwaukee Braves in 1959 and made his MLB debut with the Kansas City Athletics in 1964. Handrahan was the first inductee in the PEI Sports Hall of Fame in 1968.
