TICATS STEAL RIDER LB’S, AND MORE

So long Craig Butler

HAMILTON – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have upgraded their Canadian talent with the addition of free agent defensive back Craig Butler.

Butler, a 6-2, 196-pound native of London, Ontario, joins the Ticats following three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who selected him in the second round (12th overall) of the 2011 CFL Canadian Draft.

In 53 regular season games, Butler has registered 135 defensive tackles, 11 interceptions, four quarterback sacks and six fumble recoveries.  The 25-year-old has also totalled 34 special teams tackles.  He was named a West Division All-Star and Saskatchewan’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 2011.

Last season, Butler led the Roughriders with 60 defensive tackles while adding four interceptions en route to Saskatchewan’s Grey Cup championship.

HAMILTON – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today the signing of import linebacker Abraham Kromah.

Kromah, a 6-0, 227-pound native of Staten Island, New York, registered 39 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, one quarterback sack and two tackles for losses in nine games with the Saskatchewan Roughriders over the last two seasons.

During his four-year collegiate career at Duke, Kromah made 182 defensive tackles and 16 tackles for a loss.

HAMILTON – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed non-import offensive lineman Steve Myddelton, the team announced this evening.

Myddelton, a 6-3, 305-pound native of Barrie, Ontario, began his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders after they selected him with the 30th overall pick in the 2009 CFL Draft.  He played in 37 games over three-and-a-half seasons with the Stamps before being dealt to the B.C. Lions on August 5, 2013. Myddelton suited up in 12 games with the Lions last year.

Before turning pro, Myddelton played four seasons (2005-08) at St. Francis Xavier, where he was named a two-time AUS All-Star, a CIS All-Canadian and was nominated for the J.P. Metras Trophy as the AUS Lineman of the Year.

HAMILTON – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed free agent defensive back Brandon Stewart, the team announced today.

Stewart, a 6-1, 203-pound native of Seattle, Washington, has spent the previous five seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after beginning his CFL career with a two-year stint in Calgary.

In 74 career regular season games, Stewart has recorded 134 defensive tackles, 44 special teams tackles and eight interceptions.  He started all 18 games for the Bombers last season, making a career-high 47 tackles while adding 16 special teams tackles and one interception.

Man oh Man have the Riders been raped this Free Agent season. Build a team to win the Grey Cup and you will be attacked. Sure hope Tamman can get adequate replacements…..wonder if they are considering Sam Hurl to replace Butler. I am betting he is ready to elevate his game and could be our secret weapon.

Tiger Cats steal ?

Blame the Roughriders GM for not signing pending free agent players in Increments ahead of time knowing full well when their contracts are set to expire while being cognitive/projective of the league wide salary cap.

The Richriders proved last year that to get over the hump you need to outspend everyone especially with FAs. Having a great "team" is not enough any more. That means there will be NO REPEAT. You heard it here first. All the moves proved excellent but you can't do that every year. Butler leaves an enourmous hole and will be remembered as one of the best ever at his position I predict.
