TRESTMAN HONOURED, ESKS CUT QB AND INJURIES GALOUR
MONTREAL – Former Montreal Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman can finally take time to enjoy the city he called home for five years.
Now coach of the NFL’s Chicago Bears, Trestman is briefly back in Montreal this week, where he led the Als to two consecutive Grey Cup victories in 2009 and 2010.
The Alouettes (1-1) will honour Trestman at halftime of Montreal’s regular season home game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-0) at Percival Molson Stadium on Friday.
“It’s emotional being back,” said Trestman, who went 59-31 in five winning seasons with Montreal from 2008 to 2012. “It’s a privilege to be back. This time, (my wife) and I will see the city and walk the city together, which we really didn’t have the chance to do much of when we were here -other than the (Grey Cup) parades. We’re looking forward to that.
“Five years went by in the blink of an eye. We were appreciative of every minute of it. It must have been a great time because it went by so fast.”
Trestman will take to the field at halftime on Friday, flanked by Als owner Bob Wetenhall and general manager Jim Popp, to receive a large commemorative photograph celebrating his success in Montreal.

TORONTO – Middle linebacker Shea Emry resumed practising with the Toronto Argonauts on Wednesday.
Emry missed the earlier sessions this week following concussion protocol.
Emry was injured in Toronto’s 48-15 home win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday.
The six-foot, 228-pound Emry was a full participant Wednesday, which improves his chances of playing Saturday night when the Argos host the Calgary Stampeders at Rogers Centre.
However the same can’t be said for Calgary running back Jon Cornish.
The CFL’s outstanding player and Canadian last season didn’t practise Wednesday as he recovers from a concussion suffered in Calgary’s season-opening 29-8 over Montreal on June 28.

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Eskimos released quarterback Jonathan Crompton on Wednesday.
The Asheville, N.C. native, who signed as a free agent with the CFL club last May, didn’t see any action with Edmonton this season after opening the year on the injured list.
In eight appearances last season, he completed 30-of-58 passes for 451 yards with five touchdowns, one rushing touchdown and five interceptions. He also recorded five carries for 20 yards.
The Eskimos have used Mike Reilly and Matt Nichols as their quarterbacks through the first two games of the 2014 CFL season.

WINNIPEG – Injuries are forcing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to make some lineup changes as they prepare for Friday night’s game against the Alouettes.
Coach Mike O’Shea says defensive lineman Zach Anderson definitely won’t be going to Montreal.
Offensive lineman Chris Greaves is being replaced by Cordaro Howard and while hurting wide receiver Aaron Kelly is making the trip, so is slotback Brett Carter.
Safety Moe Leggett’s status is uncertain – Johnny Sears lined up there during today’s practice.
The Blue Bombers and Edmonton Eskimos are the only CFL teams with 2-0 records this season.
Winnipeg won only three games last year while Edmonton won just four.
Go Alouettes !
