TUES DUB ROUND-UP: WARRIORS BACK IN THE SERIES

MOOSE JAW – A shorthanded goal by Moose Jaw Warriors forward Calder Anderson at 9:42 of the third period proved to be the deciding goal Tuesday night as the Warriors edged the Winnipeg ICE 3-2.

The victory cuts Winnipeg’s Eastern Conference Semi Final series lead to 2 games to 1.  Game 4 is Wednesday at Mosaic Place.

Jagger Firkus and Eric Alarie also scored for the hosts.

Zach Benson in the first period on the power play and a late third period goal by Jack Finley were the ICE goals. Finley’s 5th of the playoffs extended his goal scoring streak to four consecutive games.

Jackson Unger made 38 saves in goal for the Warriors in his first WHL playoff start.

Daniel Hauser stopped 28 of 31 for Winnipeg.

After scoring on their first opportunity, the ICE failed to score on their five remaining power plays which included a five minute major and a four minute double minor.

Moose Jaw was 0/2 on the man advantage.

The loss for the ICE confirms Game 5 will be played Friday night at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena at 7:00.

LANGLEY, B.C. – Alex Cotton scored the game-winning goal with less than four minutes to play in regulation as the Vancouver Giants topped the Kamloops Blazers 3-2 Tuesday to avoid going down 3-0 in their WHL playoff series.

The Giants, who entered the playoffs as the eighth seed in the Western Conference and upset the No. 1-seeded Everett Silvertips in six games to reach the second round, now only trail 2-1 in their best-of-seven series with Kamloops.

Justin Lies and Ty Thorpe also scored for Vancouver while Fraser Minten and Drew Englot found the back of the net for the Blazers in a see-saw affair that saw Kamloops respond each time the Giants scored until they were unable on Cotton’s marker at the 16:36 mark of the third period.

Jesper Vikman stopped 34-of-36 shots to pick up the win.

Game 4 will go Thursday back at the Langley Events Centre.
