Tuesday Commentary: April Fools

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: Because of all the time we’ve spent in Calgary the past few years, plus attending college there and our history with the city, I’ll always have a soft spot for the Flames. And will forever be keeping a close eye on them.
The Flames posted a 3-2 shootout win at Colorado Monday night – their fifth comeback win in seven games – to keep their playoff hopes alive.
But they’re barely alive, as Calgary is five points back with nine games to go and they’re chasing a Blues team which goes for a 10th straight win tonight.
However the experience earned this Year 1 of a rebuild is beyond invaluable. The good news is we can finally report the Flames are going in the right direction.
Next the great: MLB’s Oakland A’s played their first-ever relocated game in Sacramento’s Sutter Health Park. The A’s are couch-surfing while they move from Oakland to Vegas and the California capital will serve as their home for the time being.
Over 12-thousand fans jammed the place, many sitting on grass, and the A’s players wore #24 pregame to honor the late Ricky Henderson. The only blemish on the night was that they were bombed 18-3 by the visiting Cubs.
But I love novelties like this and we’ll always remember this quirky time in history.
And lastly the ugly: Don’t look now but it’s April Fools Day. For years and years I looked forward to everyone’s elaborate pranks and even came up with some gems myself.
However it says here Covid spelled the end of many things, including the charm of April Fools Day. No one was in the mood for jokes at the time and five years later, it seems like they still aren’t.
The great thing is the world is so whacko right now, every day feels like April Fools (Trump as President, Belichick at UNC, Tkachuk on LTIR, etc)!
Enjoy.
