Tuesday Commentary: Blame ESPN
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: The CFL and Grey Cup Committee set a record Monday for the earliest announcement in history for the Grey Cup halftime act.
And it’s … the Jonas Brothers!
Hey – I can’t name one sing they sing but that’s on me. And they’re from New Jersey, not Canada.
Not a hill I’m willing to die on! This was a good move by the League and hosts in Vancouver.
Next the great: I absolutely love the Stanley Cup Final hype and knew, as the week went on, that the cool facts and jostling over who to cheer for between Edmonton and Florida would be a ton of fun.
It has been! This is the furthest geographical distance of any Stanley Cup Final, and the Panthers swept the two-game season series. The cheapest ticket for games in Florida is $600, and they’ll sell out.
What a lonnnnng, but fun, week of anticipation.
And lastly, the ugly: Former NFL punter-turned-ESPN talkhost Pat McAfee is backtracking and apologizing for referring to WNBA star Caitlin Clark as a “white bitch” on Monday’s show.
Siggggggggh.
Today the question in the media world is if McAfee should, or will, face a suspension for his insensitive, offensive remark.
My take? (That’s why you came here after all). Hockey coach Curtis Hunt always says, “You can’t beat a dog for being a dog.”
This is locker room slang, which his show was built on. And for Pat, it just slipped! He was never given proper broadcast training in the first place. I was around him everyday at Super Bowl and can tell you he’s a really good guy who was given a massive, massive responsibility. He’s proven time after time that he wasn’t ready for it.
And for that, I blame ESPN, not McAfee.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Good morning, I won’t get into the deep dive on this but the blame is misplaced. It goes higher than that. I’ll start with this. What did Pat McAfee say that was not true? Past that and going back further what exactly did the late Don Imus say that was not true? – yet, we’re being forcefed women’s sports on mainstream networks and the gaslighting takes place to make it equal. The problem is when they are treated equal they believe it’s unfair. It goes beyond the CEO of ESPN James Pitaro – that “boy” is taking orders from the… Read more »
Did anyone see that “foul”? – go compare it to Kurt Rambis heading to the basket with Kevin McHale maybe having something to say on it. Then maybe go revist 1984 to 1990 when Michael Jordan took an absolute beat down from the Detroit Pistons.
If you didn’t watch or know better it’s made out to be Bill Laimbeer taking down Larry Bird.
…..ummm she was bumped.
The world is not getting better people.
