TUESDAY COMMENTARY: BUTT OUT
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on Cat Country 98 & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: It was wonderful to spend Monday evening as the guest speaker at the year-end wind-up for the Cardinals Gibbons Chiefs football club; 3-time State Champions!
The topic was Leadership, Goal-Setting and Substance Abuse Prevention and it was great to visit with the future football stars and leaders of tomorrow.
It’s one of the top high school football programs in America and as usual, I took more away from it than they did!
Next the great: Monday was a battle of the two NHL teams I follow the most – Calgary and Florida in the Saddledome. The Flames emerged with a much-needed 3-1 win.
In fact Mikael Backlund scored the winner, shorthanded, at 3:31 of the third period. That puts Backlund in sole possession of second-place on the Flames all-time list for career shorthanded goals with 17.
Who’s #1? Our old pal Theoren Fleury, with 28.
For whatever reason Theo remains frozen out of the Hockey Hall of Fame but that’s one thing I remind of about regularly:
They can never take away his records, and that’s great.
And lastly the ugly: We don’t talk a lot of NBA around here but it’s an ugly situation that Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors is suspended indefinitely for on-court misbehaviour.
My heart sank when I heard ESPN pundits say that counselling won’t change Draymond, and that he shouldn’t be allowed to practice and be with the team while he attends league-ordered therapy sessions.
When I entered a Recovery program years ago, I never missed a day of work and convinced my bosses the best thing for me was to be on the air.
They agreed, and we never looked back.
If this is what’s best for Green and he changes for the better, then the ESPN pundits should stick to what they know about.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 5 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
Theoren Fleury is not in the Hockey Hall of Fame for the same reason Dale Hunter is not in the Hockey Hall of Fame. They simply ain’t their kind. There is more virtue signalling in putting in women who play in a 2 team tournament and a complete and utter joke. Pete Rose is on Vlad TV and 81 years old. – Vlad is a moron, and Pete said, “Some people don’t like the way I talk. Some people don’t like the way I walk. But they HAD to respect the way I played.” Pierre Turgeon who basically sat on… Read more »
Rod’ what’s your take on the Nathon Rourke happenings?
I feel this is his best chance to play and is a great opportunity!
