It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: If missing their #1 quarterback is what ails the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders, then help is on its way.

QB1 Trevor Harris was cleared for practice on Monday after missing weeks with a knee injury, and he participated in the full workout. The Riders only managed two wins without Harris, but have managed to stay in first place in the West.

The Riders visit Ottawa on Thursday but a game against the RedBlacks is no longer a gimme. At 5-2, Ottawa’s off to their best start in franchise history and are #2 overall in the league. They’re listed as 1.5-point favourites at Covers.com in the Week 10 lid-lifter.

UPDATE: Trevor Harris has been ruled out for the Riders’ Week 10 game at Ottawa.

Next the great: The Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs open Wednesday night. The East Division semifinals feature Medicine Hat versus Saskatoon and Moose Jaw up against Regina.

When the Miller Express faced the Red Sox for the first time earlier this season, it was a shock to my system. After a quarter century of calling Regina teams’ games, I’m now on the other side.

But the shock lasted about five minutes.

I want Moose Jaw to win.

Red Sox fans are filling my DMs with trolling comments predicting a sweep, but I suggest keeping the comments to yourself.

Who do I cheer for?

The team that’s paying me.

And finally the ugly: For years and years we’ve talked about the power of the media. In 2024 that hasn’t changed. In fact, it may be more powerful than ever.

And media coverage turned me off of the Paris Olympics. From the opening ceremony scandal, to doping in the pool, and then the gender mess in boxing, the whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth. I’m sure if you’re actually in attendance at the Games, it’s a wonderful time. But the media has portrayed it as a grease fire.

Of course there’s good stories too, like Simone Biles, Summer McIntosh, Canada upsetting the U.S. in beach volleyball and the chase for a mens basketball gold medal.

But I followed it only casually. There’s competition out there and found myself watching NFL Network training camp coverage ’round the clock on the weekend, as many CFL games as possible and the Millers’ four-game homestand kept me busy too.

Seek out what makes you happy, avoid the things that don’t, and you’ll lead a happy life.

It’s not that difficult.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

What’s the over/under for how many snaps Trevor Harris plays before he’s back on the injured list?

With 1 practise and not playing for weeks the chance he plays in Ottawa is slim or none. Maybe the defence can stop the run and tackle this week, that would probably help them pick up a win on the road…

Mueller needs to figure out how to make Ajoe Ajoe the primary receiver in more plays. Different side of the ball but Ajoe is a ‘freak’ as in Willie Jefferson.
